RE: Inflation28 Feb 2021 21:10
Inflation is a strange thing....because it's essentially measured in terms of short-term retail supply/demand (CPI) and yet the proportion of a country's money supply (whichever measure) being spent in retail outlets is probably quite tiny.
So you could print a bazillion squillion pounds, give it to Fred the Shred, and as long as he stuffs it down his trousers, inflation won't budge.
If inflation happens over here it'll probably be more to do with Brexit than anything else (and it b*ggering up supply chains, increasing costs, reducing competitiveness, etc).
Let's face it, if money wasn't pumped into the dollar, on the markets, as a "safe haven", it'd be decimated. It's as much of a ponzi scheme as Tesla or Bitcoin (if not more). There's no way it should be worth what it is - but until people stop buying it - the price is sustained.
