No. They are supposed to ensure that they are sold for use by a healthcare professional. Some less than reputable firms limit their checks to simply asking you to tick a box (or similar). Reputable suppliers will seek evidence that they will be used by an HC professional, either through something like evidence of professional registration (which is then easy to check) or by doing some basic due diligence on a company buying them.

A number of companies selling various tests inappropriately have had their supply pulled by manufacturers and/or have been reported to MHRA.

Plus, in relation to vaccination, we can't look at the UK (or any other country) in isolation. We have to look globally... and that vaccination process will take years, before sufficient herd immunity is reached to enable this to be a managed endemic issue rather than an unmanaged pandemic issue.

Problem is we don't really know how many Innova tests were ordered as we can't be sure how many contracts and extensions they actually got. Initial estimate were about 25-30% of Covid-related contracts/contract actions hadn't been published. Now it appears from more recent research that up to 60% may not have been published.

It's mostly likely to be repackaged Innova (marked up on the outside as NHS T&T). They're using up the old stock.

Testing is an adjunct to vaccination. Testing doesn't reduce hospitalisation, mortality or morbidity. Testing doesn't reduce or prevent transmission. The simple fact is that there has been no major pandemic or disease that has been brought under control primarily by testing.

The most important way out of this will not be mass testing as you claimed. It will be mass vaccination supported by mass testing.

Anyone who declines vaccination on the misguided belief that this will be managed primarily by testing is a fool.

ELISA has always been a lab-based service. The placing notice in June indicated that £1.1m of the value raised would be used to expand capacity. what we're seeing now with the Screen4 contract, is the outcome of that. It's excellent news - and shows that those who were writing off the ELISA part of the portfolio were wrong to do so.

Other than the short delay to get the facilities up to scratch this should be good news - and timely, as it looks as though the US could be heading for another wave.
