That second sentence is the key, as a successful proof of concept should trigger an RNS, as would the subsequent certification.

That's the Novacyt that's only just released an ELISA antibody test... when everyone else is did that months ago and are moving/have moved to LFT?

It's a lab-based, professional used ELISA antibody test. Frankly, it's old tech (we've had one for months) that will take up scarce lab capacity needed for antigen testing. LFT is the future for antibody testing.

@JAdams... the government has splurged £12billion (yes BILLION) on the Serco Test, Track and Trace programme so far.

What you're highlighting is the outcome of constant political interference. Every new Secretary of State wanted to 'leave their mark' and did so by rearranging the deckchairs. That's not the fault of the NHS.

That, to be blunt, is arrant nonsense - and I say this as someone who knows the ins and outs of NHS procurement and development (including the national IT systems) intimately. Having worked both in the NHS and the independent healthcare sector, I can tell you the NHS is far more efficient than most IS providers.

It has been very noticeable that NHS Digital has publicly been distancing itself from the Serco/Sitel Test & Trace shambles...

No... it was given to management consultants - without any formal procurement process - at a far greater cost than would have been the case had it been developed by the NHS and public health bods who do this stuff day to day...

It’s the Fortress test used by ONS for their surveillance testing. Not as accurate is the ODX test.

A lot of the big companies won't be in a position to pay dividends or bonuses this year anyway (unfortunately) but it is good to see some additional employee protections.

It's primarily a molecular/antigen surveillance programme - but about 20% antibody, which is a step change up from the current ONS programme.

Unfortunately, the tender's likely to go to one of the usual suspects.

It'll be interesting to see if the ONS require a specific antibody test to be used though (the current one used for the ONS survey, from Fortress, isn't very accurate). There's one very accurate one available... :-)
