Clearly we're approaching (maybe already 'at') the point where supply can't just expand to cope with more demand, I guess this is when the System gets serious about efficiency (like we did with electricity/electrical goods from about 20(?) years ago, and demand dropped due to enforced moves to more energy efficient devices (probs will rise again as new demand from e-vehicles, data centres etc.).

Think Leakbot can be win, win, win, win, win - customer, environment, water/insurance company, government & Ondo..., it's a real 'good' kind of product. If every level in the stack is satisfied (reliable product, does good, and at a reasonable cost-point), then in my mind it really should be a success story.

Everyone can do their own maths, but if (when) Ondo hit 1M users that's roughly £40M pa revenue, apply a conservative multiplier and you feel the "£1 per share" touted earlier today comes up way short. Especially as by hitting 1M it'll be a proven and growing business model.

I hadn't looked into the Ting setup much before now. Seems like Ondo is really following a similar business model, even down to the monthly subscription costs.

Ting is about $99 upfront, but normally free from insurance provider, yearly subscription then $49 (2nd year on), if a fault is detected they send an electrician round for free. All sounds very familiar (to Ondo).

Ting have hit 1M devices, so closely-following/adapting-off their strategy feels sound.

Wonder how the economics of things like transport & site security tally as you go from standard to small then to mini reactors. Don't know what percentage of the total running costs things like security will be (might not be a bit factor), but my gut says they won't scale linearly.

Anyone got any knowledge of 'how small is too small' for an SMR?

This is not a 'leak detector ' and is not direct competition!

It has to be sitting in a puddle of water to work (likely has electrodes on the underside and measures current). So more accurately it's a 'puddle detector', and if you're psychic enough to place it just where a future leak is gonna appear, then you should be able to fix the leak before it's happened.

George, if it's that basic, just put in the (minimal) effort to look it up yourself. I did, it took 5 mins. Went to the GE site, which steers you to their three 'separately listed/traded' companies, I clicked on GE Aerospace link, then on the Q2 results link, downloaded today's pdf results presentation and read the highlights slide.

Easy peasy and no need for any arguments.

Reading the article, two details jump out:

1. The forecast is for a 4% increase over the previous forecast, the global fleet is already expected to double over the coming 20 years.

2. The forecast specifically for widebody planes (the ones RR supply engines and servicing for) was revised up by 9%, so even better!

I should be close to retirement in 20 years time, so might enjoy watching the pot grow...

Well, who knows how long it would've taken if a dedicated ship wasn't chartered? It's all relative, and however long it is taking, going unchartered would likely be longer, especially if it had to be split into many shipments.

The messages from Bernard are that all remains on-schedule, he's yet to give me strong reasons to distrust him.

Agree with most of these points.

I'm not for wholesale wealth redistribution where the wealth has been recently (ie within a lifetime) earned, but I don't see how inherited wealth is good for the country (rich breed lazy rich kids (more generalisations!)).

What I think would be good in the long run is 'opportunity redistribution' where merit really does come down to ability & effort rather than what you have and who you know.

P.S. I would have no idea how to actually make this happen :)

Think this was mentioned the other day - the high demand on (Airbus) single-aisle means long lead-times which could then knock on to increased demand for the wide-bodies from customers who appreciate time is money.

agree! it's a necessity for ultimate (long-term) success, however it's not always a necessity for the ceo's & the board's success if they're in for a quick buck. thankfully bernard doesn't seem of that ilk.

i've seen it in tech startups where failure can come from not iding all your stakeholders, then ending up ******* one (group) of them off - i.e. just because they don't hold the purse strings doesn't mean they don't hold any cards!

For energy storage and ironing out long peaks/troughs in supply my non-expert thoughts are on pumped storage (water or denser liquids), with perhaps batteries for short blips in supply (mins to low hours, as can be stopped/started quickly)

For transport I can't see lithium batteries being beaten for a good while, and if/when it is it will be by a different (non-battery) technology. Think biofuels are a bit gimmicky and will prove difficult at scale. Green hydrogen is more realistic I reckon but stored in a more user-friendly and safe guise, such as ammonium formate.

Here's my 2060 prediction: generation is by wind, solar & nuclear (Inc SMR and poss fusion(?!)), storage is by pumped, batteries and ammonium formate (I e. Hydrogen)

Agree, BA is doing an awesome job, think he's managed to get all vested interests and stakeholders very well aligned to the same goals (for example by recognising the local population are also 'stakeholders').

Would love to hear your thoughts on what timeline this Sn/Na+ breakthrough is on, I.e. when will the lab research be productive and mass produced to significantly affect the already established (and still improving) Li+ tech?

I suspect KOD will have a few years' production before it does.

I can see Na+ batteries eventually being used in energy storage (as could be lower cost) but you can't get around it being 3.2x heavier than lithium so at a massive disadvantage for regular in-transport use.

Also, please quote sources, elsewise we may just dismiss you as derampery... 2 people who work at startups and profess to be experts and who have a vested interest said tin is the next big thing to loads of people at a tin conference :)
