The timings involved cast doubt/suspicion in my mind. - I was never convinced we'd been told the truth. - The QI statement of maintaining guidance for the full year and then in the blink of an eye that wasn't the truth. - It seemed as though a quick explanation had had to be found for one reason or another. - If memory serves correctly, I seem to recall a similar situation, many years ago now, when, as a result of theft, a company had to issue a cover-up statement, a lie if you like, for the purpose of maintaining stability/trust. -In theory, if something similar had occurred here, then one way of making-up for theft of x oz. of gold would be to announce a reduction, without there really being a reduction, to balance the situation. This of course could explain the suddenness of the altered forecast. - You can't say that's what happened here of course, it's not possible to know, but the similarities are striking.
