RNS Number : 9754W Pure Wafer PLC 04 February 2013  PURE WAFER PLC (AIM: PUR) Banking and Debt Restructuring Update Pure Wafer plc ("Pure Wafer" or "the Company"), the provider of high quality silicon wafer reclaim services for many of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, is pleased to provide the following update on its banking and debt restructuring. Following the successful placing and open offer completed in November 2012 (the "Placing and Open Offer"), Pure Wafer has now completed the restructuring of its balance sheet by refinancing its debt with HSBC (the "Refinancing"). The Refinancing is in the form of a $5.6m (£3.5m) term loan over 4 years, with a $1.6m (£1.0m) revolving facility which is available to be drawn down at any time during the 4 years for any capital expenditure requirements. These loans attract interest rates of 3% over Libor for all utilised funds, with a one-off arrangement fee of $120k (£75k). In transferring its banking arrangements to HSBC, Pure Wafer has negotiated certain discounts and fee waivers with its previous bankers, RBS and Citizens, in consideration for full repayment of their debt and facilities, These discounts and fee waivers amount to a total saving of $615k (£384k) to the Company. The combined benefits of the Placing and Open Offer together with the Refinancing has resulted in savings to Pure Wafer through discounts and fee waivers through negotiations with our debt providers of $1,018k (£636k) and an annual cash flow benefit of $3.94m (£2.46m). Peter Harrington, Chief Executive, stated: "We are delighted to announce that the restructuring and refinancing of our debt has now been completed; a significant step which gives long term stability to the Company. Pure Wafer is now in a financially robust position to enable us to take advantage of the strong demand that we are experiencing for our products, particularly from Asia and the US. an old story I know, but this project was headed by Dr Owen Guy Dr. Owen J Guy is a Senior lecturer in Nanotechnology in Swansea’s College of Engineering. Owen has a long history of collaborative research working with a host of industrial partners. Owen currently has projects with Pure Wafer International Ltd., SPP Process Technology Systems (SPTS), IQE, Tata, 3M, Magstim, Osseo Regenerative Technologies, Haydale, SEAS Nano Solutions, Ig Innovations and Gwent Electronic Materials. I feel that something is about to come to fruition from the research work of Dr Owen guy involving Pure Wafer.

Interactive Research in Silicon Carbide (INTRINSIC) DTI Project No: TP/3/OPT/6/I/17311 Silicon carbide (SiC) offers huge advantages in electronics due to its exceptional material properties. Silicon carbide devices will be tens of times smaller and lighter than their silicon equivalents, reducing the size and weight of electronics in hybrid electric vehicles and space and aerospace applications. Silicon carbide electronics will dramatically increase energy efficiency and decrease environmental pollution. The research will focus specifically on novel Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS), IGBT and diode devices up to 1.2kV, for applications in hybrid vehicles and portable power supplies. A new fabrication process is proposed to increase the channel mobility in MOS devices, based on silicon / silicon carbide heterojunction technology. New commercial silicon carbide surface polishing techniques will be used to radically improve the performance and yield of Schottky diodes. University of Warwick is a partner in the new £1.1m DTI (Department of Trade & Industry) funded project “Interactive Research in Silicon Carbide (INTRINSIC)” project. INTRINSIC, started in October 2005, is developing novel metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) technology, using hetero-junction and surface preparation technology to develop high channel mobility MOS switching devices. INTRINSIC is a UK consortium of six industrial (Surface Technology Systems, Semelab, Aviza, ESEMI, Pure Wafer International, IQE), and two academic partners; Swansea University and Warwick University.
