The other thing to remember is that shares are also added for Employee Schemes each year. Not as many as have been taken out but its not a straight reduction.

On the £2 per share question, my (very) basic understanding is this...

We have 15bn shares today at 1.56 = c£23.4billion company worth

For that £23.4billion worth to be £2 per share you would need to have 11.7b shares in issue.

So a further 3.3 billion shares to be cancelled at 1.57 per share is another c£5.2billion of buy backs.

Anyone who knows this game better than me, is that right or am I way off!!

@Mr A - Thanks for popping past. I have c40k shares here that have been built up over the years. As mentioned before, my 'portfolio' is very unbalanced!! Early 2022 when we tipped over the 200 mark, I thought we would be around the 250-275 mark by now. Its not to be. Hoping we see 175 in the next couple of months, but the only thing I am certain of with this stock is uncertainty! I am sure you will find a 10% trade at some point. Good Luck.

Does the dividend re-investment cause a small downturn due to volume of buys?

Yep that why I wonder if this is the new scheme or the one that finishes soon. Like you say, employees can opt for cash or convert to shares.

I think this will align to the new scheme that will start in November and application period closed recently.

To add, it could have been more if they had upped the max monthly savings amount allowed. It can be upto £500 per month and most schemes allow that. Barclays have decided to leave at £300 per month.

So assume this will be the issue of the SAYE scheme that offered employees at 87p back in 2020 that are now maturing for those on a 3 year plan. There is also a 5 year plan option that will come out in 2025.

Or it could be for the new scheme that has recently been offered at 117p

All SAYE schemes give 20% discount on the price on a certain day/days before the application window closes.

Well, we are now a lot closer to 149 than 143. So will the article play out. Fingers crossed for those that are long.

I have never shorted a stock but actually made a call to enquire about a short posistion back in Feb. Price was c185 at the time. I wanted to understand charges etc as didnt have a clue.

I expected it to run for a while, got told the leverage amount required etc.. said let me hold on a couple of weeks (was waiting until after the annual results) and its dropped ever since without me opening!!

So we have sub 143. What next? The article says this "Weakness now below 143p risks triggering sharp reversal to an initial 127p"

@Louie - The latest RNS relates to the amount of new shares they have issued for employees under the SAYE programme.

The have issed c 641k new shares out of 171m so a tiny % of the overall shares in issue.

It could be worse Reducer. It could be Lloyds shares. Over 500 in 98, now just over 40p

So they are pretty much saying we dont want 143, but if we get 149 then it should be positive from there.

Its a lot closer to 143 than 149 as I type!
