Gold in euros hits all-time high of over €1,63924 Jul 2020 15:30
Gold prices in euros soared to an all-time high on Friday as investors turned to the safe-haven asset amid a fall in stock markets on coronavirus concerns and geopolitical tensions.
Coronavirus cases continued to soar in some of the most affected countries, including the United States, where over 4 million people have been infected so far. Meanwhile, tensions between the US and China intensified after Beijing ordered the closure of the American consulate in Chengdu in a tit-for-tat move for the shutting down of its consulate in Houston over spying allegations from Washington.
Gold in euros rose 0.75% to sell for €1,639.75 per ounce at 9:15 am ET. Meanwhile, gold in dollars topped $1,900 for the first time since 2011, nearing its record high of $1,921.25.
