Europe mixed premarket with eyes on Brexit, COVID30 Dec 2020 06:45
Shares on the major European stock market indexes were mixed in the premarket trading on Wednesday as the investors closely monitored the developments on Brexit and COVID fronts. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are scheduled to sign a deal over trade arrangements between London and the EU, while the UK's House of Commons will vote on the agreement later during the day.
The pandemic situation across the continent started to worsen, with France reporting the most daily COVID deaths since April, and the UK observing another record jump in infections seen in a single day.
The DAX was flat at 7:36 am CET, while the FTSE 100 went up by 0.09% at the same time. Meanwhile, in France, the CAC 40 lost 0.10% at 7:32 am CET. Both the euro and the pound strengthened versus the dollar, rising 0.24% and 0.27% at 7:38 am CET to sell for 1.22790 and 1.35336, respectively.
