Gold started the week off by briefly hitting another all-time high of $3,921.26 per ounce before easing back down a bit, amid increasing concerns over the United States government shutdown.

Gold rose by 0.49% to go for $3,905.18 per ounce at 8:05 pm ET. Silver gained 0.36% and went for $48.16 per ounce at 8:08 pm ET. Meanwhile, platinum increased by 0.66% at the same time to go for $1,593.45 per ounce, and palladium rose by 0.41%, going for $1,238.87 per ounce a minute later.

Major stock exchanges in Europe traded higher in the premarket on Friday, as the data-heavy week continued, with industrial production, services PMI and producer inflation reports scheduled for release today. The United States Federal Reserve remained in focus as well, with investors still likely expecting several interest rate cuts in the coming months.

The DAX rose 0.13% at 8:00 am CET. At the same time, the Euro Stoxx gained 0.35%, the CAC 40 added 0.30%, and the FTSE 100 advanced by 1.03%.

Both the euro and the pound stood flat against the dollar at 7:59 am CET, changing hands for 1.17167 and 1.34330, respectively.

European stock markets traded higher during the premarket hours on Wednesday with investors awaiting Swiss consumer price index (CPI), unemployment data from Spain, Italy and the Euro area. On the political front, Denmark is hosting European Union leaders this week after recent drone sightings, with defense measures and Ukraine support high on the agenda.

The DAX added 0.44% at 8:00 am CET, and the FTSE 100 climbed by 1.56% at the same time. A minute later, the CAC 40 advanced by 0.47%, while the Euro Stoxx 50 increased by 0.79%.

The euro and the pound both traded flat against the dollar at 7:58 am CET, to sell for $1.17356 and £1.34774, respectively.

Asos just missed full-year revenue targets but the online retailer is still bullish about opportunities to reduce costs, says Jefferies.

Andrew Wade retained his ‘hold’ recommendation and target price of 375p on the fast fashion retailer, which was trading down 9.5%, or 27p, at 265p following a full-year 2025 trading update on Tuesday where revenue growth came in slightly below consensus estimates and earnings were towards the lower end of the £130-£150m guided range.

Wade said despite the miss on numbers, the group was ‘bullish, highlighting additional opportunities to reduce fixed costs and drive further variable cost optimisation that were taken in the second half’.

‘These have permanently lowered Asos’ exit cost base, with significant annualised savings in full-year 2026 to support a more profitable underlying economic model,’ he said.

‘As a result, the company remains confident in achieving full-year Ebitda in line with consensus expectations.’

Wade added that there continues to be a ‘trade-off between top-line versus sustainable profitability, and the former will ultimately need to be addressed to offset deleveraged headwinds, as Asos recognises’.

Equities in Europe traded mixed in the premarket on Tuesday as investors awaited reports on annual inflation rates in France, Italy, and Germany. Germany will also post its latest unemployment and retail sales numbers. Additionally, the United Kingdom will publish its final gross domestic product (GDP) estimate.

The DAX lost 0.27% at 8:00 am CET. The FTSE 100 gained 0.11%. The CAC 40 rose by 0.17%. The Euro Stoxx 50 stood flat.

The euro and the pound sterling stood flat against the United States dollar at 7:58 am CET to sell for $1.17355 and $1.34355, respectively.

On the economic front, the German Ifo Institute is set to release the latest data on business confidence.
