Rats, if Trinity's figure of 5% going to Scancell is close to correct, then yes, it is more trouble than it's worth.
Perhaps, in the end, Scancell realised this and did not use too many resources pursuing GC.
I agree that the calibre of team members it attracted from industry and the acedemic world is reassuring.
The issue of who owns the IP might also have become troublesome.

I knew there was a move to create a 2nd company.
At the time I though it was more like

a) Sell immunobody on SCIB1 results
b) Create a Moditope company

or vice versa

Now it has been clarified.
I wonder who the new European investor was.

Let me elaborate my statement.

Moditope is already at a high level of knowledge as is BionTech's TCR technology.
Jumping from Modi1/2 to Modi3 is not a big jump in knowledge.
It is probable (although we don't know for sure) utilising targets that Lindy has already discovered.

Whereas the winners are looking to go from a low level of knowledge to a much higher one whereas with Moditope that leap has already been made.
Perhaps this is what CRUK is looking for in the GC. Research that will lead to a leap in knowledge.

It's probably already been said but I think Cruk didn't look on PBP as pure research.
Moditope has already been discovered and ModI1 has a trial planned. Modi2 had also been designed.
The Biontech TCR technology is probably ready to go and just needs the targets.
So essentially PBP was more about implementation than new research. It's a shame that ModI3 now has to wait it's turn in the pipeline.

I think PBP with the list of 18 professors will not now happen. The industry members of PBP will still retain their interest is Moditope.

a) she was probably searching for common ground between autoimmune diseases (RA especially) and cancer
so she may have been trying a variety of targets including crucially citrullinated epitopes
b) she may have suspected that a CD4 killer attack would be more potent than CD8 and CD4 together
c) she may already have known that spiral shaped targets were best

There may have been other clues she hasn't yet told us about.
So she was searching for a breakthrough using specific clues.

She may have been searching for months or even years using these clues and suddenly she struck gold.
Imagine that moment. She probably thought see was seeing things so she repeated the experiment a few times to make sure.

But it's that focus born out of many years of accumulating knowledge and experience that paid dividends.

Roche/Genentech, in particular, seem to be spending money as though it is going out of fashion.

We saw the same with AI and Genentech. It's as though they feel that, if they cover enough bases with enough money they will get breakthroughs.

You can't help feeling that all the clues are there and big pharma just need to employ people to study the clues and come up with a more focused approach. Kind of reminds of a certain professor does it not?

Yes, it seemed to be the mindset of big pharma at the time. No cancer vaccines!

In a year or two's time pharma x may be regretting their decision if not already. Not just a bad decision but they have wasted 5 year or more.
But why should a pharma's board not listen to their own scientists?
Seems daft to me when SCIB1 was showing such good results which turned into outstanding results.
