Thanks for the answers guys, certainly would be better if the waste was more local rather than brought in from outside. If that can happen then there is more chance of the locals being on board with having the plant in their area. One big aspect of green technologies is getting people on board and seeing what it can do for them rather than for the greater good, so tie ups with the local councils/authorities is a big part of the site development and commissioning

something which did seem apparent from the few comments posted for the article, was the perception of the area being seen as a 'dumping' ground for waste and that it was going to be imported into the area/country. Not an angle I'd really thought of before but I guess there is now going to be competition for the waste source.
Anyone have an idea of how local the waste is likely to be or, if it is going to shipped in, then how much of an impact that has on the green aspect of gasification? I'm not knocking this as I can see huge benefits in the process but if Eqtec are not seen as green as they could be then this can impact on public perception and potential investor perception of the whole process

Kitesurfer, why do you think this is a demonstration unit? Looking at the article on the Extreme E site it says
" Following six months of collaborative engineering with Extreme E’s utilities team, the fuel cell system has undergone a month of intensive commissioning in January at AFC Energy’s Surrey assembly facility, alongside battery management systems and vehicle charging infrastructure testing.

With the system getting the green light, it has now been distributed ahead of being loaded onto Extreme E’s floating centrepiece, St. Helena, prior to its departure from the UK in mid-February for Saudi Arabia. "

So that sounds like more than a demonstration unit to me

I can’t say I’m familiar with legal documents but I have to say some of the phrases I see in Eqtec’s rebuttal are strongly worded and not what I’d expect. Certainly seems that they have done much to reach out by Aries have ignored each contact. I really can’t see how a ruling can’t be in Eqtec’s favour but stranger things have happened - fingers crossed !

Thanks for the info aandi which, in my view, backs our sentiments clearly that Aries were ‘ trying it on’ to see what they could get. Hopefully the judge in Monday dismisses this in 5 minutes and we can move on. Just a pity they don’t lay costs on Aries as well for wasting everyone’s time.
I wonder if any potential news coming up is being held back until after this so that it doesn’t detract at all. Do we know what time the court hearing is?

haggis, nothing to do with growing a pair or looking at green as an investment only. Some people aren’t in a position to fully embrace a green lifestyle but do what they can to minimise their impact. That doesn’t mean that they won’t do so in the future when they can. I count myself in that group where things will be changed out or replaced as situations and finances allow and my diesel car is a great example of that. Firstly the current cost is prohibitive to me as well as the fact that the current E cars don’t have the requirements that I need. My car is a bit of a workhorse and is used for all family members benefits where space/transporting things is needed. So forgive me if I don’t swop it for something much smaller and unsuitable just to tick a box and highlight my green credentials.
Comments like yours are why a lot of society is slow to look at alternatives when they are lectured at. Change comes through persuasion and showing better alternatives and we have seen a huge shift in attitudes in the last year especially. Don’t put people off through aggressive views and comments even if the intentions are well founded and genuine.

At the moment I’m running a 5 year old dirty diesel Toyota Verso which I will run into the ground before changing. Hopefully that will get me another 5 or 6 years at least but I’m open to changing before then if a suitable EV replacement comes up. More likely to replace the wife’s Kia before then which will be an EV as her mileage to work is not a lot. If the AFC SP goes to a good level then that will give us the money to do that easily :-)

Haggis, maybe this may be a business model going forward for dealerships by offering charging facilities for people that don’t have the space or ability to set it up themselves. For example opposite my local Toyota dealership is a block of flats which don’t have obvious places to set up charging points. If Toyota gives access to chargers then the residents could charge and then bring their cars back after. Means a 30 yd walk so not too inconvenient

Well I assume you did your research prior to investing here, so you know as much as the rest of us as to whether it’s worth hanging around. It’s a question of whether you want to turn a quick profit or be an investor and be patient? So which do you come under?

I agree that you can't have a big push when the product isn't ready, however their silence has been deafening when there have been PR opportunities. Prime example was the roadshow when that was going on, I don't recall seeing very much coming forth from them about that. That we have taken on a Communications manager suggests to me that AFC have decided that they need to be doing things in house more rather than relying on an outside company. We shall see how it goes but if Thomson keeps them but is willing to chase them up and make them earn their fees then that is a win for the company.

I think the biggest issue is that not many drivers have experience with EVs and so aren’t sure/ confident with what they can do - and I include myself amongst that. At present we have confidence in how far we can drive allowing for running air con, heaters and a whole manner of other electrical items. With an EV there is a matter of confidence as you are dealing with a finite source which is running everything. As people get more used to things then perceptions will change as well as behaviours.
Habits will change and it will need both sides of the EV debate to modify their expectations about what people should think.

As I’ve not been here for very long then it’s hard to be bullish like some as I haven’t experienced the highs and lows like the LTHs know of.
So I’ll say 8p as that would be a great rise for me but am more than happy for that figure to look stupidly low and to multiples of that:-)
