I think the problem with hydrogen would be the infrastructure as it's dangerous to transport, and has to be made on site.
So for shipping and Airports it's ideal.
The reason I favour electric is because we will get to a stage where fuel doesn't cost us anything.

Shipping is already going to convert to hydrogen, the same as airliners.
EV's by 2030 won't need the charging infrastructure they need today, the gap will be closed.
This is because of graphene photo voltaic systems that will be employed on roofs and panels.
Today this type of tech can give you 30 miles a day, by 2025 that will be closer to 80 miles a day.
For a lot of people that is enough.
Already lots of companies are switching to electric vans, electric trucks will follow. ( expect more tax breaks )
Also expect the cost of petrol and diesel to rise rapidly ( not sure how national governments are going to manage this, but they have too, the figures are too stark, and even then we need to do more )

Tiger I don't know what you have done in the past or what you do now, but I doubt it was engineering.
The point is the EU, the USA, China and all the rich nations are going to stop making petrol and diesel cars pretty quickly.
Try selling into any market, where their is no demand, and try justifying your present day R&D budget in the engineering of diesel and petrol engines.
The market will drive this.
Also we are going to get a lot more regulation on climate change, so expect tax rises on those that carry on driving petrol and diesel cars.
We need to go much faster on climate change than we are at the moment.

oh dear Tiger, I agree on hydrogen, as Airbus have announced the production of Hydrogen powered Jetliners from 2035.
Let's look at cars.
Petrol, Diesel and hybrid cars ( new cars ) will be banned in the UK from 2030. ( expect other countries to follow, as climate change really is driving this )
People will stop buying these cars after 2025 as the resale value will not be good.

Volvo have already stopped making petrol and diesel cars, and expect many other producers to do the same over the next two years.
So wondering what you base your assumptions on.

We may not need Platinum, but we do need Copper.

But I wonder how many have thought about this.
The areas of high population in this world are the poorest, and per head their CO2 footprint is the smallest.
However China, Brazil and India, are in the worlds richest nations, and some of the dirtiest in energy production.
China is firing on all cylinders, but is using Coal bed Methane as an energy source as well. ( that can't go on )
The amount of copper these countries require for the next 100 years is staggering.
So it doesn't matter how fast we mine copper, in order to address climate change, we require other tech that doesn't require copper, so Solar and silver will play a part.
But we need more, and that means stuff that hasn't been invented yet.

Yes there is newtoit, commercial and industrial premises that have 3 phase and max demand meters, consume most of the power in this country.
But reducing the residential supply helps in so many ways.
Less strain on the grid, cheaper electricity, and energy security.

You haven't missed it rcgl2, I have read all the posts today, they haven't responded, as many on here haven't read the RNS all the way through.
I think some read NM is stepping down, and said to themselves, great we are getting sold.

As I commented earlier, I am always looking at how the world is evolving.
I have a way out prediction, but maybe with some considered thought it may not be that way out.

The Planet is the number one concern to humanity, if you don't understand the difference between climate change and man made climate change, then please stop reading now.

We are electrifying the world, and in the UK we have a problem with electricity generation. ( namely cost and capacity )
So are we eventually going to build the Nuclear stations or not. ( we probably will, but not certain )
However the way we generate electricity is rapidly changing, green energy costs are in the construction, not the daily operational costs.

So I can see a day when is electricity is priced at a fixed price for households, based on the size of your house and how many people live there.

Also with Microgeneration, the problem is the storage, but we are progressing with battery technology at a fair rate of knots, so we may have a solution, where in the future houses generate their own power and are run solely off electricity.
As you know I was in oil and gas shares for many years, and not something I would go back into to, within the present environment, but interesting to see what BP are up too.
As I said just a bit of fun, no need to respond to this post.
