Hi Brad - based on looking at a few sites, I wouldn't trust the figures on the Kyles Converter page too much. As stated on here before, Kyle's numbers don't appear to consider the inefficiency of the generation process. When this is factored in, the gas flow required for 2MW is more around the 350k scfd mark. At least that's what I (non-expertly) get it to and I think that's the general consensus on here.

Hi Chukkers. That was the website I first used (Kyles) but then I looked at a few more, and got to the 350 scfd figure. Unfortunately I don't have the sites to hand as I'm at work but they include the one that you posted ( https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=667&t=8 ).

DownToEarth, I don't think the 'Kyles Converter' website factors in the efficiency of the gas to electricity conversion (ie. of the generators). Looking at several other sites, realistically the required flow for a 2MW deal does seem to be around the 350 scfd mark.

Great post. Good to see some examples of the 'negative decline' of CBM well flow rates, along with the timeframes.
Given the initial flow rates from Lesedi 3 and 4, I wonder if the Mamba drilling, mentioned in the RNS, is for the 2MW deal as well?

Taking a quick look at that government site (which looks more reliable than the one I quoted), I get the necessary gas flow to be 183k ft3 pd for 1 MWh(*24), presuming an efficient generator.

So pretty close to your figure but more for 1 MWh than I originally thought for 2!

I guess the gas flow RNS will give more context when it comes.

It's for natural gas (not CBM) but I'm guessing the figures are similar (?)
I went with 48MWh (2MWh x 24 hours) and assumed the result (163,782.8 ft3) is the amount of gas per day.
Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong - I can't vouch for the website, or my interpretation!

I've also read that a CBM well is lucky to get up to 300,000 ft3 pd (as myFirstM said), but even if the two Lesedi wells are average, they should cover the 2 MWh easily. I was wondering if there was a consensus from people who know more about this, of what flow rate figure would be disappointing/OK/great...

Hi. What would you say is a good flow rate? I may be way off but I reckon for a 2MWh deal we need at least circa 170,000 cubic feet per day. For the longer term 10MWh goal, around 850,000 ft3 pd.

So for now, I guess 500,000 ft3 pd would be 'good' ?
