Bablake, just catching up now site is back to normal and just saw your post. Retired or unemployed correspondent! That made me smile. Actually I claim early retirement but the missus (she’s still keeping the economy going) claims I’m more like unemployable than unemployed. My old job did require some aspect of writing up and lightening up mundane data but in reality my problem is just that once the bs starts flowing I can’t stop!

Clearly a vaccine will help a number of businesses and will benefit the high street. But the effect it will have will, as always, be down to the behaviour of people.

Those people that used to go to town to meet up, have a good old mooch round Harvey nicks followed by a cheeky ****tail or three in the champagne bar before heading out on the town will be back on it.

Those people that would spend a day shopping at Meadowhall or the Trafford centre or the likes rounding off their shopping trip with a meal and a visit to the cinema will be out in force (as will the thieves whose livelihood depends on nicking their purchases while they are eating popcorn and over priced pick and mix watching the latest Fast and furious or James Bond flick!).

The ‘we will park your car (having driven it like we stole it) on a muddy field for a fortnight while telling you it’s in a secure car park‘ merchants will be doing a roaring trade when people jet off to their favourite covid free holiday destination.

The people who want to meet up with friends, window shop their way through selfridges having tried a few new perfumes out followed by a quick trip to primani to get tonight’s new going out gear will still do it as soon as they are allowed to.

But none of this will stop those people doing their next shopping online like they do now and none of this will stop those people who have paid their tenner for a years 24 hour delivery from getting their fast fashion from boohoo like they do now.

Customers forced to shop online during lockdown rather than the high street may have discovered boohoo and customers who spread their spend across boohoo and Primark and river island might well have spent more with boohoo during lockdown.

So a vaccine might change the behaviour of some of boohoos customers but the new customers obtained during lockdown and the general shift to online shopping (people still go to John Lewis or curry’s to check out the latest flat screen telly only to go home and buy it from ao or amazon) should not affect boohoo materially.

I expect the likes of easy jet or intercontinental hotels to fall back slightly after yesterday’s stratospheric gains but as the general outlook is a vaccine is coming be that from Pfizer or elsewhere I would like to think this is but the beginning of the much needed recovery for certain covid affected sectors.

Boohoo may lose some customer spend to Primark or whoever based on how some boohoo customers used to behave but some of the new customers gained will stay and growth in USA, Australia, Middle East and the fact that the coast and Karen millen brands haven’t been properly talked yet and probable acquisitions puts less emphasis on growth due to lockdown and I’m confident boohoo growth will continue (as it was anyway) post covid. I was happy to get in cheap in July and I’m happy to keep until I see a £4 at the start of the sp.

There is no fact or substance concerning a dual or secondary listing in the us. It’s pure speculation/wishful thinking based on the fact that a couple of us institutions have invested enough dough to warrant reporting their holdings and the fact that a bunch of frustrated posters believe boohoo is being unfairly treated by the Press, is fairly unloved by the market generally and would, in their opinion, be much loved and snapped up by us investors if a secondary or dual listing in the us were to happen.

That said I’m not saying I don’t disagree with the view and I can see the logic of boohoo doing something like that but if they were to do so I would imagine they would only do so once they have a much bigger presence. Maybe boohoo will open a distribution hub in the us and maybe they will even be as bold as to produce over there to speed up the time to market for that audience and maybe if they are successful at doing so they will consider a listing in order to tap into an additional source of funding in a market that celebrates the boohoos of this world better than the U.K. seems to. But as far as I see it there’s nothing in the form book to suggest It’s being planned or even thought about currently.

Furthermore the article written by the mp listed boohoo ahead of Nike and didn’t mention the fact that Disney had refused to take part until further down the page. I bet if boohoo had refused to take part that would have been headline material.

I think the times (and they are not alone) is still taking every opportunity to knock boohoo by referring to the Levitt inquiry or their own ‘modern slavery’ story every time they report something concerning boohoo. I don’t view that as clear and fair reporting.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that a portion of the brown group business has always been home shopping. Years ago that meant some lady in your street was the catalogue agent and your mam would get the catalogue off her and buy your new trainers or your Christmas presents and every week said lady would come and collect the weekly payment. They then opened one of them there new fangled call centres With a freefone number and lots of ladies were no longer needed as catalogue agents with individual customers calling the contact centre direct. They then made the natural move to publishing the catalogue on the internet and customers could either phone or place their order online. That transition to making their catalogue offering available on the net rather than just hard copy or adverts in the Sunday paper magazines did not make them what we would term an online business. Where brown have failed is to fully embrace what online is and to taylor their marketing and customer acquisition processes accordingly.

They have done a lot of work to properly become a fully online operator which included getting rid of the few bricks and mortar shops they had under the jacamo brand but more importantly to recruit the right type of buyer, technical expertise and marketing types that understand the online retail world.

They were late arriving to the party and this has been reflected in previous and to a degree current results. However the expertise they have in managing the distribution and returns process required to succeed at online retailing, the expertise they have in their purchasing teams and the expertise they have in the buy now spread the payments space still exists and in some respects puts them ahead of some of the existing online players.

The task at hand is to ensure that they can acquire new customers and retain them and can service their already sizeable customer base. I remain confident that they will achieve this.

They are not going to attempt to be boohoo or ASOS and they are not going to put next out of business but when Mary Murphy has purchased her £10 dress from boohoo but wants a moschino or Armani handbag to go with it or when she wants a pair of uggs or some Tommy Hilfiger shoes these guys can deliver it the next day and she can pay for it on credit.

I’m not expecting a quick fix but I am expecting bwng to get their fair share of the online spend with what they have begun to do with their business and I expect the share price to rise accordingly.

All that taken into account I’m not overly concerned with either the results or the placing/dilution of shares and whilst we might not see a £ in front of the sp this side of Christmas I see no reason why we won’t see it at some point next year.

Aj bell sent me a voting form via corporate action but my isa is with halifax and I used the chat function, easy and quick enough to do though.
I questioned why it wasn’t done by a corporate action event and the person dealing with the chat didn’t know but said they had dealt with another customer earlier today and took their instruction through chat. I instructed them to vote AGAINST on my behalf and said I bet the other customer did the same. The response ‘just give me a minute to load my database........ Charlie. If an individual or a share holder acquire more than a specific percentage of shares in a company they are obliged to tell the market. The Morgan Stanley rns today and the other one a day or so ago are notification that they have acquired shares.

If you look at the details of the notification it will tell you who (Morgan Stanley), how much they have in percentage terms and what their previous position was.

So in this case Morgan Stanley have purchased shares equivalent to 5% of boohoo and their previous position was nil so this is a new investment.

As for the shouldn’t be investing if you don’t know this well everyone has to start somewhere with a little knowledge and amass more knowledge over time so don’t worry about it.

Harchris, the most relevant thing for me about t rowe price isnvesting in boohoo is their stellar reputation and somewhat cautious investing approach.

One has the impression that they have cut through the bs that our negative press stories consist of and see a solid business with good fundamentals that is going places.

The fact thaf they are american isnt that relevant but just as some uk investors would research and be tempted to buy a stock because terry smith or nick train did maybe trp investing in boohoo will stir up some interest from the american private investors especially as a lot of people are predicting that american equities are overpriced and suggesting that theres vslue to be had in uk and elsewhere in europe.

Zwartkops, either you need to mix more tobacco with what you are smoking or if you’ve done your research and seriously believe this will be sub £1 by February then I suggest you open a short position. Maybe wait and see if the latest rns has a positive impact on the sp first but get stuck in and while we are all nursing massive losses because we thought this would be knocking on the door of £4 by then you my friend will be rich.

In the current period of uncertainty and volatility with many experts suggesting American stocks and in particular American tech stocks are overpriced, propped up by stimulus and due for a correction I wonder if the fact that an American fund manager with their reputation has heavily invested will increase interest of American private investors?

Row shares - it may be that Apollo want William hill but cannot make a bid knowing that Caesars will terminate the agreement they have with William hill us. Maybe Apollo are close to securing some form of agreement with someone else so they have something to offset the loss of Caesars outlets (Caesars are not the only show in town) and need a bit more time to prepare their bid on that basis?

It’s all wild speculation as to will they (Apollo) or won’t they bid, will someone else rock up and join the bidding party and if not will sufficient shareholders vote yes (or no) to allow the Caesars bid to go through or force their hand to up it or change the offer.

Either way it all puts you in a tough place if some or all of your holding in William hill is required for house deposit or expenses relating to the new house purchase. I see the possible outcomes as...

If the bid goes through and share holders vote yes the shares will continue to be listed and will be tradable until the takeover is finalised. I’ve been a holder of companies taken over before and usually the shares trade at a figure just below the takeover price which means a holder can pay their dealer commission, take a slightly lower pence per share and get their hands on their cash rather than wait for the deal to complete.

If Apollo or someone else come in with a bid one would expect it to be higher than current share price and may even result in a bidding war between parties which will push the sp higher. However an alternative bid could be offering part cash and part shares in the new company or even be an all share offer. There’s no guarantee that the shares in the company taking over that wmh holders inherit will trade at a big premium to the current wmh sp especially if the takeover is funded by debt or a share placing.

If the deal gets voted down and Caesars do not increase their offer but decide to walk away and keep the existing arrangement in place the share price could feasibly drop in the short term. Even if Caesars came back with a joint venture offer there’s no guarantee the sp will hold or increase beyond where it is today.

I’ve decided to hold my shares and ride it out because I beleive/hope that shareholders will vote this current offer down. But I am a long term holder and will ride out any volatility in the short to medium term and am prepared to take the 6/7p per share risk even though a yes vote would effectively cost me a few quid. Your situation sounds like it might be slightly different.

Kando I would suggest that the fact that the ceo and cfo are buying shares is a sign that they have confidence in the business which is exactly the point slipperz made.

If you think the number of shares needs to be several million to demonstrate confidence that’s fine it’s ok for you to have a different opinion but I’m inclined to agree with slipperz original comment that if the company had been behaving incorrectly from an accounting point of view and that’s why pwc resigned it’s unlikely that the CEO and cfo would be buying shares given said incorrect behaviour would become known shortly and would likely have a material effect on the investment.

You can’t have it both ways kondo. The share purchases were either small and a mere token gesture In which case they wouldn’t have any effect on shoring up the sp or they were Significant enough to demonstrate the board members confidence in the company and therefore could do.

No the fca do not take a dim view of inside knowledge the don they take a dim view of acting (ie trading) on inside knowledge or passing on of knowledge with the intent to allow another party to trade on it.

The original post clearly stated that they were told something positive was coming and that they were happy with their current share holding. No one to your knowledge or mine has been given specific information that they would be able to trade on. The post might just have easily read that my cousin works for a delivery company and he’s been working 60 hours a week and 90% of the parcels he and most of his coworkers are delivering are boohoo parcels which makes me happy with my holding!
