The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
Cheers Mat. Very impressive homework. I have a limited knowledge of the damage that palm oil production causes to the planet but have been aware the world has become addicted to its use for some time. Sounds like a very interesting diversification of the seed pf on the face of it.
Barwick, Jim Mellon talks some sense and some absolute nonsense. In the case of his dairy industry comments I would suggest he is talking complete and utter bullocks.
Agree with all that, Mat.
Where are you getting the synthesised palm oil from? I would be interesting to know more, it seems palm oil is in just about everything these days. It will be a winner if it can be done more sustainably without trashing rain forest.
As someone who works closely with the farming community I can't say I'm particularly enthused by the clean meat proposition but I believe Matador is right, this industry will take off in the next decade or so as it ticks the animal welfare and low carbon production boxes. It will undoubtably be an inferior product but previous history suggests we will all learn to live with that.
Here is why, OD commented that beef is not as tasty these days as there is less fat. He is right, less fat means less flavour, but the reason for this was the result of necessity. In 1988 the government introduced a whole host of controls to eradicate BSE including the requirement for beef cattle to be slaughtered far younger (under 30 months of age) so they did not have that mature fatty flavour of old.
Did we all stop eating beef since 1988? Of course not, we got used to it being an inferior product than it once was.
Clean meat will see history repeating. The flavour will be not as good as it once was but I will put money on it that we will still eat it.
By the way OD if you want good beef these days you need to buy the stuff that has been hung for 3 or 4 weeks, you won't find it in a supermarket, you will have to go to good butcher.
80 Mill. I can't see that coming back to bite you in the ar se, Mat ;-)
A very good update on Eurox. Now we just need LGP, Yooma and Portage share prices to correct to more appropriate levels rather than how this depressed market currently values them. I have a hunch we will discover if Leap is a sale or IPO around the time of the Endeavor OpenBet acquisition completing. I can't remember if that is Q2 or Q3. If its a sale we will be cooking on gas. Patience required.
Keeper should save that.
launch of the Accumulte network on the mainnet due to take place sometime in Q2. We need it to be a success if we are to see any sort of return on our stake in Inveniam currently valued at a 250k vs our 5m investment in Factom.
Alfresco...well we might not have a roof over our heads much longer!
This LTH wouldn't be at all surprised if nothing happens this year. As far as Leap is concerned it seems fairly obvious something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
My take is that there was never any intention to IPO and Ed thought he would have negotiated Seed's exit with IMG by now. Well it looks like they have called his bluff from where I'm standing and the only way forward now is -
Go through with the IPO (would be a disaster imo), or
Settle for a valuation a lot lower than Ed's implied 50 million mcap for Seed, or
Just keep on kicking the can down the road.
Sorry if that is depressing for some but that is the way I see it.
too right it is.
I will be there for Champions Day next Tuesday, Barwick. Looking forward to it...I won't be reading Seed LSE board all day!
Protektorat to win the Gold Cup. You heard it here 1st.
I don't rule out IMG launching its own sportsbook.
It looks that way doesn't it Longlad.
If it smells like **** it is because it is ****.
Well it explains you recent display of pessimism at least, Mat.
Ed may as well announce another placing cos it doesn't look like Leap is coming up trumps any time soon.
Hmmm.

Anyone else experiencing problems accessing for past couple of days?
Positive - the state of Cali can't really afford not to introduce online sports betting. The tribes will resist these moves with everything they have got but the bottom line is online is where the meaningful tax dollars will come from and I don't see any problem with the residents voting for this on the ballot, with all those sports teams they must be desperate for it to happen having watched the majority of states go that way.
Negative - expect a raise so that Web can get W&W sale ready.
One nagging doubt I have always had with Web is that they have to run the Cal Expo track to get their Cali licence. Will any suitors want the ball ache of taking on this operation?
In summary, still all to play for but expect some bumps along the road.
