An exciting project! Many ships use diesel-electric power systems, so here they would be replacing the diesel generators with hydrogen-FC systems to generate the electricity. Interesting that they are using ammonia as their source of hydrogen.

I saw another report that said that there are different configurations of connections for the various makes of charging points. That's not very helpful, and clearly these connections need to be standardised throughout the industry.

We should be getting confirmation of planning permission three weeks on Tuesday, then things can really start moving ahead.

The oil industry have to remove all of their offshore structures and take them ashore for specialist decommissioning. I imagine there will be similar conditions applied to the windmills, both on and offshore. And I believe that at the planning stage the windmill developers are required to state how much CO2 will be generated by they entire life of the windmills which must surely include the disposal of them as well, but I can't confirm that. However I would be rather sceptical about any calculations that are used in that exercise.

Mucksy, that's a dreadful story about the turbine blades. I wonder how much CO2 is created in the disposal of these monsters? And in the building of the replacements, if that's what they are doing?

Listening to the programme last night it seemed that the government wants to "incentivise" the progress towards carbon reduction instead of taking the lead. for example, they are going to remove the subsidies on new EVs and instead they plan to put cash into providing more EV charging points throughout the country, in the belief that this will entice more people to buy new EVs even though the price of these vehicles is higher than conventional vehicles. The government just doesn't want to think about new technology apart from windmills and solar. And they seem to have no idea about the problems that will be faced by local distribution networks.

I saw it as well. I think "hydrogen" was mentioned once, without any sort of explanation of course! I got the impression that no-one on the panel had any idea about EVs or the extent of the infrastructure problem. Just throw in some funding for some extra charging points and everything will be fine!

Mucksy, do you know anyone who might be at this event at Hill Guildhall? It would be interesting to learn what they have to say. I would be particularly interested to find out what plans they have to achieve the target of carbon neutral. I mean, do they have any specific ideas of how this can be achieved, or is it just a case of stating how important it is for everyone to become carbon neutral by a certain date.

I'm sure that AFC will get into "hydrogen batteries" in the fullness of time. That's the sort of technology that 's needed to convert variable renewable energy such as solar and wind into "base load" for the grid.

Hi stokey, yes I'm aware of the 90 day clause, and that's a question that has been raised on this BB, and others. I have no doubt that this question will come up again whenever we get the shareholders' circular about the takeover proposal.

His name seems to have disappeared from the Members list. Shame, but I hope he decides to come back.

That's true sharesport, but I think it's probably a fair assumption as we would probably have heard about it if they had.

Well that is true, except that under the current structure nothing is able to move forward. W2T have been tasked with the responsibility to establish the SPV for this project and to find funding for it. As we all know, they have failed to raise the required funding. I can only assume that the reason for that Is that no bank or financial institution will lend that sort of money given the current confused structure and relationship between PHE and W2T. For the moment both companies are stuck in the mud, which is the reason that it has been decided that they must merge in some way.

Nor can PHE go it alone so long as the current structure continues to exist. First they don't have the funding for it, and would be unlikely to raise it under the current structure. Furthermore, PHE cannot themselves go ahead with the development of the DMG at Protos because:
a) PHE don't have a lease for the site at Protos. W2T have the lease.
b) PHE won't have planning permission at Protos. If/when the planning application is granted, it is W2T who will have that planning permission.
c) PHE won't receive the grant of £1.25M. That is due be awarded to W2T subject to planning permission and funding.
d) PHE cannot develop the DMG system anywhere in the UK because it has given exclusive rights to W2T to market and develop the DMG in the UK.

All IMHO of course, and happy for anyone to put me right if I have got it wrong.

I can't see any way that they can issue the shareholders' letter about the takeover until the planning application is granted. Surely they wouldn't ask the shareholders to vote on the takeover before that is nailed down?

If that's the case I can't imagine very many people buying petrol or diesel vehicles in 2035. Think of the resale value!
