RE: I'm back in for LTH29 Nov 2019 17:11
Good question Woodstock but I haven't read it. I would say nobody really thinks it has ever worked but it's the best system we got up to now and is actually infused with quite a bit of socialism at it's finest (not tantamount to communism though often confused). Best bet is to try and make it work for you while whatever environmental catastrophe awaits for you. Bit too much obsession with growth for it's own sake of which the markets are a big part but it's up to politicians to lead the way not me, though protest politics are quite big just now as opposed to just democracy. The fact anyone can buy a share in any company actually means the public can own the means of production so could reject a Marxist depiction of the old capitalist reality, perhaps. Then again it does make some companies rather soulless and I actually prefer small business with strong philanthropic leaders in many ways. I have done that in the past but doesn't fit with the school run. There are some types of share I won't invest in on ethical grounds and, ever aware of geopolitical forces some countries I also avoid but I'm fairly pragmatic about how the world needs to keep functioning. I sometimes blunder into the wrong shares but am fairly nimble to reverse out. I would think maybe the world should head towards greater co-operation and the EU has been instructive, but not the answer and maybe run it's course too. Whether I can make money from shares I have yet to find out. I am probably waiting to see if I am lucky and can get out alive at some point.
