Menu engineering a clear gamble17 Oct 2010 18:12
Most of M&B profits come from food. The company has recently been engineering their menus. Anyone who has recently eaten at O'Neills, for example, would know about this. Prices are going up and portions are getting smaller. Whilst great for the company in the short-term, once customers realise what's going on they might decide to eat elsewhere. I was recently fairly disappointed by my Irish cheddar cheese and chutney sandwich in my local O'Neills. There was hardly any cheese and lots of chutney, complimented with about a dozen chips. On a contrary my experience at Weatherspoons been much better. If this menu engineering works and customers of O'Neills, All Bar One, Harvester etc don't mind there will certainly be 'good times ahead', as Bristol 407 predicts. Let's hope it does.
