littletrader - according to your link, 55% of Boohoo shares are already owned by institutional funds, 24% are owned by insiders like Mahmud Kamani, his family, and Carol Kane. That leaves about 21% in private shareholdings, i.e. people like you and me.
There will be many long term holders who are private shareholders, like myself. So even if at a very maximum, 20% of private shareholdings were available to buy, that's only something like 260 million shares for the likes of thousands and thousands and thousands of institutional funds to try to buy.
Let's say, for example, 2,600 institutional funds wanted to buy Boohoo shares, then, they would only each be able to buy 100,000 Boohoo shares. Institutional funds look to buy shares in their millions and not in their thousands, so, they'll have to compete against each other for more and more Boohoo shares
This is why we'll see a huge rerating of Boohoo's share price when institutional funds are happy with Boohoo's ESG.
