It seems to me that returns are obviously being abused,, hence why companies need to charge a fee.

If I buy online I buy more than one size of everything. I sometimes add items I am 90% sure I won't like, but order them anyway. I regularly keep just one of the items, or even send everything back. I pay by Klarna so I don't have the stress of waiting for refunds. This is how everyone shops online isn't? It's the price online retailers such as Asos pay for having fewer overheads.

I have a friend who sold small ironmongery online.

Customers would buy 6 different versions of something and return the five styles they didn’t like.

It was very inefficient for him until return postage became the responsibility of the customer, this weeded out lots of fake purchases.

Cost of living: Shoppers are spending almost 20% more on clothing than last year, taking the value 1% ahead of the 2019 figure, according to research from Kantar for The Guardian newspaper. It is all down to the return of weddings, holidays and socialising fueling a boom in what’s being called ‘revenge spending’ for experiences missed over the series of pandemic lockdowns, the findings showed. However, inflation is having an effect. Kantar also found the volume of clothing items being sold had fallen by about 8%, while the average price being paid for items was up by 9%.
