Hurricane Ida stops oil production
Hurricane Ida's approach has effectively put an end to the oil industry linked to the Gulf of Mexico. According to CNBC, the corresponding 91 percent of oil production is shut down, while the same applies to 84 percent of natural gas operations.
The oil and gas company has been forced to evacuate 279 platforms offshore, and industry representatives now predict that gasoline prices could rise by about 80 cents per gallon (3.78 liters) if the hurricane were to pass over the New Orleans area, where there are many refineries.
The hurricane is now up in category 4 and could be the worst to hit Louisiana in 170 years, warns the state governor.
