303K jobs added (estimates had averaged 213K jobs). Unemployment down from 3.9% to 3.8%. Better than expected.... does this mean the US market dips???

I am certainly not an economist (Although I took A Level Economics... a) it was 35 years ago and and b) I just wasn't that interested at the time about Macro Economics....) - However I am led to believe the jobs data which is about to be released in the US could shake up the market. Better than expected jobs data is BAD (for the market) (as this will lead to inflation and delay interest rate cuts....) Not great jobs data is good insofar as it will lead to less inflationary pressure and could lead to earlier than expected interest rate cuts... Any economists out there that listened more intently than myself?? Have I got this roughly right?

Agreed, The Government seems desperate to help companies in their attempt to catch up with RR - possibly to avoid legal issues down the line when they award RR (at least) the majority of the contract.

I agree investorintheknow - All the stocks that I have pinned on the left are down.... apart from HE1 - which is rising :-). As you say, Royce's is actually fairing better than most (IAG down 2.78%, EasyJet down 2.11%, M+S down 2.6% etc, etc). Just a bad day at the office - These last few days have been weird - hopefully, once everyone has moved their money around Tufan can release some good news to give us all a boost - Are we still waiting for the "very important deal" that Tufan mentioned in an interview 5 or 6 months ago which was signed and sealed but not public????

My reading of this news was it was yet another development grant from the Govt to help them try and catch up with RR....(as below). I may be mis-reading this but "developing plans" is a bit different to being awarded a contract???

The Government’s award of £3.34 million will be matched by X-energy for a total programme of £6.68 million. The companies will use the funds to develop UK-specific deployment plans including an assessment of domestic manufacturing and supply chain opportunities, constructability, modularisation studies, and fuel management.

Too much in the pipeline to be talking about topping out. Dividends, SMR's and some big engine orders should take this forward in the next few months - Plus if Tufan can actually achieve the targets he has set for the company - that would be very impressive - I'm guessing as he's from an accountancy background he's pretty confident of the maths... Certainly not topped out (IMHO) - just taking a breather before another rise...

Only 20% of shares are held by retail investors.... You'd think the good news would outweigh a bit of selling from retail investors who are moving money around (and generally re-investing in RR through ttheir ISA....). I'm waiting until tomorrow to sell a chunk ready to put into my ISA on Monday - I was rather hoping to take advantage of the somewhat predictable and continual uplift but the last few days have been a bit weird (to put it mildly). Royce's needs to take a long hard look at itself and sort itself out.... :-). Thankfully, I, like many on this forum have done pretty well over the last year and so long as you buy and sell (or sell and buy) "in the same market" you shouldn't miss out too much apart from the annoying commission and stamp duty costs....

The fool is a most infuriating read. It's only real mission is to entice you into buying a subscription so that you have access to even more drivel. With stock trading being a somewhat imprecise dark art they can cherry pick any point of data they choose and then fashion an article around it. I used to avidly read anything RR related but have come to realise that so long as you filter out the occaisional idiot the information you get from this board pretty much covers everything you're likely going to need to know....

Always good to have some reassurance from a knowledgeable chartist who is able to hack through the short term volatility and give you a positive, rosy, long term perspective... Thanks Svend.

Just looking through a few shares it seems the airline industry has been hit across the board - Ryanair / Easyjet and IAG are the ones I keep an eye on and they're all down 1 or 2% (Easyjet and IAG have recently performed pretty well). What's spooked the market about the airline industry today?? Is it the potential for escalation in the Middle East?

It's a bit weird seeing Royce's go down so dramatically. I suppose I've just gotten so used to seeing positive movements in the SP I'd almost forgotten the feeling you get when you see your beloved share falter. Hopefully just a blip... a bit of Middle Eastern nervousness.... Such a shame as the general RR news still seems extremely positive...

Why's that Red_inky? I thought if anything people splurging their money into their new ISA accounts might give it a slight uplift? (and possibly a slight downside on Friday 05th??) - Although retail is only 21% of the ownership of Royce's so quite how much an effect it will have is debatable...

You're clutching at straws there Toffers.... Subsiduary's are "wholely owned" by the parent company (in this case BMW). This doesn't get Rolls Royce motor Cars any closer to this chat board though.....
