I believe it is more simple than that.

An opportunity was spotted to short a vanadium company in the shadow of a sharp drop in vanadium price.

During the three months ended March 31, the Vametco operation produced 649 metric tonnes of the metal, which is found in alloys used in jet engines. That was broadly in line with the same period last year.

Improvements to the operation, including mine production, scheduling, and enhancements to kiln grade, meant Vametco churned out 270 tonnes in March alone. Bushveld expects to produce 2,800-2,900 tonnes this year at a unit cost of US$18.50-US$19.50 per kilogram."

Bmnfan why do you think the RNS highlighted that load shedding did not affect the plant in March? Could it be that they are contrasting this to Jan / Feb when load shedding was an issue?

This seems to be a very significant factor in the high productivity for March compared to the two previous months.

I note that on the Beta site 6 of the top 7 recommended posters are regulars on the BMN bb and BMN is one of the most discussed shares, as usual.

I will not post again today in solidarity with my fellow shareholders.

I note conspiracy theories arising again! Maybe there is some truth but I am a sceptic. The truth most of the time is much more simple. As Alfa inicated, an opportunity to short as the V price came down.

Alfa concerning BMO if my memory serves me well wasn't there some speculation at the time that they may have been brought on board to help with JSE listing, given their international credentials? It would certainly explain their presence.

That's all highly plausible Uksteveg and you sound like you know and understand a lot more about shorting than I do. Are you therefore ruling out the possibility that they crept over the threshold in an attempt to suppress the sp, following the surprise Vanchem announcement? The word 'accident' was not mine! I didn't suggest they didn't know what they were doing, merely that it was a byproduct of their shorting activities.

Whatever the truth at least we all have a better understanding of what has been happening recently. perhaps that will help investor confidence.

I wonder if this outfit got caught out by the Vanchem news (and possibly other shorters too) and were forced to increase their position to force the sp back down. Unfortunately for them it also had the effect of exposing their position to all the world, including us, by crossing the 0.5% threshold.

I agree with gkb47. If there are no sellers the sp will have to move up as the shorters seek to close their position.

I don't subscribe to a conspiracy theory concerning takeovers. Just an opportunity to attack a company following the drop in V price. If that recovers soon I guess their problems get worse.

And if the predicted newsflow is positive (especially production numbers) ....

As your two posts on this matter received a number of recommendations it is clear that you have negatively affected my standing on this bb. Please take this opportunity to repair the damage.

Bmnfan let me clarify something. At 10.46 when I wrote that "I disagree completely" that was in answer to you writing "this is a very important subject for shareholders". I was not passing comment on whether or not some LTHs have traded this share.

Prior to that I had already made it clear that in my opinion anyone could be trading this, and a discussion singling out LTHs was pointless. It is down to the strategy of each individual, and not how long they have held shares.

Of more concern to me, putting aside your comment about me "getting arsenic at times" (rather unnecessary don't you think?), is the "Scratched a nerve there then".

I asked you to explain what you meant by that, but you have ignored that request. Given that we were discussing LTHs trading BMN your comment appears to suggest that includes me. You will understand any anger on my part as I have several times stated that I don't trade BMN. You seem to be questioning my honesty ... to put it bluntly calling me a liar.

LTHs are no more likely to be trading this than anyone else. For instance recent arrivals with no history or loyalty to the share could easily be trading in or out. Even those that bought in at a higher price may choose to trade to attempt to reduce their average. I know it can be done because last summer I did just that with another share.

In my opinion there is no one group of shareholders that is more or less likely to be trading BMN than any other group. It is solely down to the strategy of the individual. It can be divisive to point the finger of suspicion at any one group, and such generalisations really are rather pointless within this context.

Now please can we move on.
