where it would enter a reservoir on the surface for storage, then release the flood gate into the downshaft and run a hydro-turbine. If the depth is 3km straight down, the flow is uninterrupted & free-falling; then the flow speed could get to ridiculous values of hundreds of mph which would be unprecedented for hydropower.
