Pest control specialist Rentokil Initial (RTO) revealed a 48.5% plunge in adjusted pre-tax profit for calendar 2008 to 107.9 million pounds, adding that consequently it has decided to bin the final dividend. Revenue fell by 9.4% to 2.41 billion pounds at actual exchange rates and by 2.2% at constant exchange rates. Fourth quarter profit slumped by 43.2% and 56% respectively to 36.7 million pounds. "Though our existing lines of credit extend for the most part to 2012, we have decided not to pay a final dividend in order to preserve and improve our financial headroom and to allow time for the operational recovery to deliver improved profitability," said CEO Alan Brown. "A number of other measures are being taken to optimise working capital and capital expenditure." The dividend cut didn't come as too much of a surprise and the shares finished just 0.75p lower at 44.25p.

No, I think, for the foreseeable future – cash is OK. As far as, the time-frame is concerned, if there are any “positive grunts” in the interim, the SP usually holds up well. And if things appear really positive, cash –extensions usually materialise! Let’s hope so. ATB
