There is so much ill informed rubbish out there and turning up on here at the moment. There can only be one winner at present and they know it, thats BNP. Who knows what could transpire between now and the election, the interim government cannot make a law thats says we won’t use our own coal ever, even if they could the next mob can overturn it. I don’t think the interim are going to shaft us, it wouldn’t surprise me if we see something positive about needing to utilise own resources, they have been in charge less than a month, everyone is looking for an angle, and I am just choosing to ignore the rubbish we are seeing in the BD press, and some of the posts on here. After years of 'suppression' everyone has an opinion, most of them ill informed and blinkered. The figure quoted as being cheap was off the Indian Grid, not Adani which is from memory the most expensive. The other thing overlooked here was the recent news article where the Indians were saying they needed all the electricity they could get and more and that National Interest had to come first with regards to export, plus energy security doesn't come from being dependent on imports especially from a country that is know to have been self seeking and interfering in Bangladesh's; internal affairs, and right now they have shown their contempt for Bangladesh by contributing massively to the biggest flooding for 40 years. So no importing from India is not a great idea, and as GP says yes they have the capacity to generate (and to keep up with economic growth it will need to grow further) but they are importing coal and LNG that they can't afford to run them and people were expecting to be paid and they can't so it's drying up, plus a lot of the powerplants are at the end of their shelf life. I just love (hate) these simplistic ill informed opinion piece articles !

P 7:Engineer Golam Kibria was in charge of IPP Cell of PDB. From 2016 to 2018, he was in charge of the site visits of all the power plants set up under the Special Powers Act. Basically if he visited the centers and gave a report, the center would be approved based on that report.

Later, this capacity charge was shared by the syndicate. Ahmed Kaykaus appointed him as chief engineer as a reward. Appointed as Managing Director in PGCB. It is alleged that he has committed massive irregularities and corruption while sitting there. By creating an organization called Bangabandhu Engineering Parishad in PDB, corruption was established there.

The president of this organization was Dr. ABM Siddique. In addition to his official room, he allocated a separate room in the PDB for lobbying and doing various business. Billions of rupees were traded sitting in this room. The leader of this council was engineer Jasim Uddin. He also became the Chief Engineer of PDB with the help of the syndicate.

Kajal Kanti Roy was a member of this council. Mohammad Yusuf was the director of purchasing department. Although the Anti-Corruption Commission has filed multiple complaints against the two, the Commission has not investigated any of the complaints so far. It is known that ACC could not take any action against Nasrul Hamid and Mahbubur Rahman for their welfare. Besides, with the connivance of State Minister Nasrul Hamid, engineer Mahbub used to secretly divide big projects into small parts and sell them to contractors of his choice using Direct Purchase Method (DPM). Nasrul Hamid Bipur was his APS Mamun and Deputy Chief Information Officer Mir Aslam as cashier. As a reward, the former state minister also made Mir Aslam a member of the board of directors of the LNG import-related reformed natural gas company (RPGCL).

Rooppur nuclear power plant was originally built by his hands. Where large sums of money have been alleged to have been lost.

The investigation revealed that after Anwar Hossain left the Ministry of Power, Ahmed Kaykaus emerged as the godfather of this great corruption. A former president of Bangladesh Independent Power Producers Association (BIPPA) was Kaikause's right-hand man at the time. Nasrul Hamid Bipu came to power in 2014. Khalid Mahmud became PDB chairman in August 2016.

Kaykaus' leadership was then forced to bring the approval of all development projects in the power sector to the ministry. Then sitting in his room one after another commission trade was going on. This syndicate earns thousands of crores of rupees in this way. Allegedly, Maswara used to receive huge amount of money every month from Kaikaus United Group even when he was the secretary. According to documents filed with business regulators in Singapore and Bangladesh, Powerco's major shareholder is an individual named Kamruzzaman Chowdhury. He is Nasrul Hamid Bipur Apan Mama. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury himself was involved with Hamid Group for a long time. His sons, brothers and sons of brothers have served and are serving as top executives of the Hamid Group.

An alternate director of Powerco International is Murad Hasan, according to documents filed in Singapore. He also served as the Chief Operating Officer or COO of the company.

Powerco International Managing Director Nabil Khan is connected with this Intekhabul Hamid. The Indian national runs a Dubai-based investment firm and the Middle East arm of a Singapore-based shipping line.

Another person involved with PowerCo is the company's Assistant General Manager Tarek Khalil Ullah, who has been with the Hamid Group for a long time. He is a close associate of Intekhabul Hamid. In addition, Nasrul Hamid Bipur Bhai through an organization grabbed about 7 mega projects from DPDC, NESCO, Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB), Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO), Rural Electrification Board (REB) in the last 5 financial years. The total value of the projects was more than 5 thousand crore rupees.

On the other hand, they grabbed 8 mega projects from these 6 companies in the power sector in the name of setting up data centers through two big tech companies. Not only that, Nasrul Hamid Bipur misused his younger brother's power to take over 8 mega projects called Network and Security through a company. Among them, on June 1, 2023, the Rural Electrification Board took over the installation of 500,000 meters from REB. The total cost of this project was 2 thousand 300 crores.

A joint venture or consortium of Japan's Marubeni Corporation, Dutch-Swiss energy company Vitol and Powerco International has been awarded the job of constructing the country's largest LPG terminal at Matarbari in Cox's Bazar.

The consortium received the work order to construct the terminal at a cost of 305 million dollars or 2500 crore taka on the basis of public-private partnership with Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. However, the project has not yet seen the light of day.
