I'm not panicking. I'm £17,000 down this morning on Barclays. I might buy some more for the capital gain. Certainly not buying this stock for the income. I'm going to sell this year at £3.50 and put the money where the divi's are better though.

Almost everyone (analysts) expected the dividend to be 5.7p. Citi even called it at 5.8p. 5.5p is what isn't being received well as Barclays have the lowest yield of all the banks. The board have shot us in the foot with this.

Disappointed with the final dividend. I was expecting 5.8p. That leaves the yield really low.

That's a great amount - 72,000. I had a nice holding but when it dropped a couple of months ago I used the opportunity to top up for the decent dividend yield on offer - and it's still good now.

I've got 49,920 and my average price is £2.14. I'm currently showing a paper gain of £12,408 but unless there is a significant increase in the share price I don't see my making any changes anytime soon. I'm here for the dividend and I'm taking a long view. If the share price goes above £3-£3.50 then I will obviously review and see if there are better opportunities out there. But even then I doubt I would sell the entire holding.

I've not updated on this for a while so I wanted to reflect on the benefit of the share buyback for investors on a like for like basis.

Barclay commenced their first buybacks since the financial crisis on the 19th March 2021. At the time there were 17.3 Billion shares in circulation and the market valued Barclays at £31.7 Billion (£1.826).

Today there are 14.549,695,209 (14.5 Billion) shares in circulation bringing the total buyback so far to 2,815,673,322 (2.8 Billion) so if Barclays were to be valued on a like for like basis then the Share Price should be £2.1794.

As it happens the market values Barclays a little bit higher but it's easy to see the benefit of the buyback as without the buyback the shares would only be worth £1.896 today.

Another way of looking at it is this:

19/03/21 you buy 100,000 shares at £1.826 giving you circa 54,764 shares. If the market valued Barclays at exactly the same price today you could sell them at £2.1611 giving you £118,350.48 netting you an £18k capital gain on the buyback alone.

I did a baseline when Barclays did their first share buyback on the 19th March 2021. The shareprice on day 1 was £1.826 when there were 17,365,368,531 shares in circulation and the market valued Barclays at £31,709,162,938.

As a result of the buybacks to date there are 14,672,746,017 shares in circulation. Based on the valuation back on 19/03/21 of £31bn the shares would be worth £2.16 on a like for like basis.

Today the market values Barclays slightly higher at £32,991,669,419 to get a slightly higher shareprice of £2.248.

The market determines the value of the company - this is just a high level illustration of the impact of the share buyback.

Thanks LT. I agree it is low and I'm taking a calculated risk that may or may not pay off. My holding here has fluctuated over the years but it's the first time I've completely sold out and I agree - it's a low price but I'm in profit so not a panic sell.

I've got the divi to come from here and deployed half the capital in other opportunities that have also suffered recent drops whereby if they recover I'll be in front even if LLOY was at 60p with the bonus that I can get their dividends as well. Going to see how the markets open in the morning to see what I do with the rest.

If I profit elsewhere and still have an opportunity to buy back in here I will do.

Just sold 500,000 - my remaining holding in Lloy - to redeploy the capital. Would have been nice to do this last week. It's not that I have any negative feeling to LLOY but taking a risk elsewhere. Hope to make a quick buck and come back here.

I doubt we'll see a 3rd quarter announcement for a buyback but that would be a pleasant surprise. I think we'll see at least a £1.5bn announced at year end which will be double the half year buyback. I'm only going off the last few years.

Whilst I don’t think we’ve yet seen the worst I’ve taken this opportunity to buy an additional £8,500 of stock at £7.46.

I agree this could drop further. I was sitting on a £4,000 paper loss excluding the div on 2nd August.

I will review again in a few months and if this drops to £5-6 by then I will add another £8k. My aim is to average down my losses whilst keeping an eye on its recovery. I recognise the risk here but I do believe in the brand and if done right by 2027 I could be sitting on a capital gain that’s paying dividends again.

Good luck to anyone who decides to invest more, and for those who believe different and sold at a paper loss there’s nothing wrong in cutting your losses.

The previous dividend policy between 2020-2024 was to have a sustainable dividend policy with a growth rate of 5% per year. Yesterdays announcement reset that policy to honour the 2024 5% increase but then reduce the increase to 2% through to year ending 2027. It's a decrease to the increase rate and the markets haven't taken that news too well.

However, this is not a bad thing for us investors for the following reason. The dividend yield on here was already great at 7-8%. The share price drop we've seen in the last 24 hours has increased that dividend to almost 9%. So for any investor buying at todays price who is looking for a long term return then this is a great investment even if the dividend was to stay the same through to 2027. For me it's a no brainer as even reducing the increase to 2% it means the dividend is safe and less likely to face a future cut.

At these prices I would re-invest the dividend to increase my dividend payments.

As far as your capital is concerned if you've recently invested at £2.50 and are sitting on a paper loss today then in my view you have nothing to worry about. The buybacks, whilst small will add shareholder value and add pressure upwards on the share price. We may see that increase. But the biggest pressure upwards on the share price will be the great dividend yield. Investors will not sit and ignore that dividend for long - especially when it's deemed as safe. And if the new strategy pays off we may well see special dividends before the end of 2027.

I feel really positive about LGEN and foresee new highs down the road for this share price - above £3.

Just topped up with an extra £7k at 11:46 - bought 3015 shares. Have some reserves in case it drops further.

My dividend was there first thing - £10,404. I've already spent it. I've split it across Phoenix Group and Primary Health Care - both quarterly dividend payers with a high dividend yield at the moment.

Interesting that I looked at this today.

Today there are 15,105,406,532 shares in circulation. If the bank was to be valued the same as it was on the 19th March 2021 (our baseline) then the share price should be £2.0992.

As it is the market currently values Barclays less at today's value of £27,574,919,624. Interesting that the share price today is £1.8256 (virtually the same as 2021).

But things are looking up. £2 is in sight.

5.5p dividend and £500m buyback.

Analysts are reporting 0.92p dividend (up from 0.8p) and no share buybacks.

I was hoping for at least 1p.

The board backing her is yet another serious error of judgment that follows a number of blunders. What on earth is going on at this bank.

I’m definitely voting against the appointment of every single member of the board. The chairman is already going. The whole board needs to be sacked. This is utterly ridiculous.
