I've put another £10k in this morning. I'm loving the share buyback which will increase the EPS which should have a positive impact to the share price. After enjoying being briefly in profit I'm down on paper this morning by 5.33%.

However I've also reduced my average price to 52.9p. I'm feeling very positive about these results. Like others I would have liked to have seen a better dividend but what we got was what was expected and I'm happy with the huge share buyback that was announced.

@£1.71 you can pick up cheap shares with a 43% discount from the Net Asset Value per Share of £2.95.

Yeah - results are strong but the mistakes were avoidable. Probably open down at £1.85 but I'm still bullish on this stock.

Full Year Profit - £7 Billion (down on last year as a result of litigation and conduct charges of £1.6 Billion)
Final Dividend 5p - Bringing the full year dividend to 7.25p
Additional £500 Million share buyback to commence (Bringing full year share buyback to £1 Billion)
Net Asset Value per share has increased to £2.95 (Shares still trading at a discount)

I won't be selling. I'm keeping these for the long term. It would be just nice to see one of my biggest investments back in the green.

I'm the closest I've been for a long time in breaking even. I seem to be watching my own glass ceiling today. My average price is 53.7866 - and it's not quite got there. If it breaks that today I'll be finishing work at 4pm and might have a glass of prosecco to celebrate.

Hope you're feeling better. I'm thinking the Divi will come in at 1.6p for the final. Bringing the full year divi to 2.4p.

Deutsche Bank has just raised HSBA to Buy (from hold) and increased the target price from £6.50 to £7.60.

This follows broker rating increases last week from Jefferies who raised to Buy with a target price of £7.70 and Bank of America raising their target price to £7.20.

There's still value here for people who are thinking of jumping on board.

This keeps pushing towards £3 but not quite getting there just as Lloyds keeps pushing 50p. I think both will pass before the week is out but who will be first and will it happen today.....

January 23rd 2009 Barclays closed at 47.3p but intraday traded as low as 43p.
They also traded at 43p intraday on the 21st of January 2009 but closed above 60p.
Apart from those two days they traded as low as 50.81p on March 9th 2009 but closed 56.72p.
10 days later they were over a pound.

If you bought at 50p then you bought at the bottom and couldn't have timed it better. I think the lowest Barclays have ever been was 49p and it was brief.

Thanks both. I think it's worth a punt for a small amount. Helps me to diversify my portfolio too as I've been too heavily invested in one sector. So I've been using some of my dividends to spread my risk around. Anyway, I've just bought 5771 shares. If it goes lower in the next few months I can always add to it. Long term I'm sure this will bounce back well.

This share is looking cheap to me so I'm thinking of buying in using some profits from elsewhere. Just wondering how others are currently feeling about this share. And the dividend yield looks quite high after the recent drop in the share price - are we expecting the dividend to be cut?

I'm not asking for advice - just interested in peoples views. I'm thinking of putting just over £5k in.

I've just paid for last years. I'd like to keep the same number - 79p for me please.

@Mr Wolf - These two were the ones that cut the dividend in the first place at the same time promising to double the share price. Instead the shareprice halved and the dividend never recovered.

Looking at the subscriber numbers from the latest results and the after hours trading (how does that work btw) we could be looking at a $30 increase on open.

Yesterdays close $240 a share so that means we're looking at $270 on open - a very nice increase.

I'd check you've been paid correctly then - and I'd be interested to know if you've been paid the full 16.8p to the penny. My parents have separate accounts with Barclays and have been paid incorrectly - albeit only by pennies.

Barclays have worked out the dividend as 16.79*****

@Dinoken - Do you use Barclays Smart Investor as your broker?

@Rickpom - They will have to compensate you accordingly. I'd make a note of the lowest NWG price and the date of when you 'could' have reinvested. That difference between that price and the price when they actually pay you your dividend should give you an idea of a starting point for compensation. Then they should add on the inconvenience, time you've spent trying to sort everything out etc....

I'm sure it will be sorted eventually.

@Rickpom - If you bought the shares on the 26th August then there can be no dispute that you are entitled to the special dividend.

The ex dividend date for the interim dividend was 25th August. For the special dividend it was 30th August. So if you owned the shares on the 26th August then you get the dividend.

One thing is interesting is that you mentioned 6pm on the 26th - which is after the trading day. Just wondering if you bought them on the 26th why you'd mention 6pm. I only ask as Monday 29th was a bank holiday - so the next trading date is the 30th August from 8am. I'm just wondering if there is some bug on the Barclays FNZ platform that has moved anything after the last trading time (4:30pm on the 26th August) so if the system is picking up 6pm as the date you owned them that's why it's not paid out.

You're still in the right of course - just wondering about the time and where you got that from.
