Good afternoon Delboys, the V2O5 containers have not been delivered yet, just cleared US customs for the first time. Due in Oakland 20th August if the West coast ports are clear now. Today they are in Panama being loaded onto the vessel MSC SHUBA B

@raffym: Of course there are other sources of Vanadium Nitrate but serious competitors no. Over 75,500 kgs in one delivery to Baltimore last Thursday. Try getting a quote for that quantity on your links or some of the Chinese sites.

The Wärtsilä RTA96C engine is rated for over 80,000kW. Average trip for us is 30 days or 720 hours (neglecting time zones) and although the sun may shine occasionally there are no Electrolyte refueling stations out in the deep.

@maroonbells: A very nice 5 min article for the masses. Yes the areas at the top and bottom of the canal will have had a rise in pollutants due to the large parking areas that built up. That would be due to Egypt not having a SECA zone, 24 hours of ships traveling up and down the canal maintains a high level of pollution for it's full length. Europe, certain areas of China and the US do not allow high sulphur fuels to be burnt within their zones.

Additionally whilst I am happy to see VRFB deployment in the marine trade do not confuse Ships with inland waterway craft such as ferries and barges. For ships. particularly container ships I can see adoption of VRFBs for auxiliary power perhaps for the reefer containers and emergency services and the like but main propulsion...Not for a long time.

@Libero: Any ships that chose to take the southern route would likely stop in Cape Town for fuel and perhaps provisions for the longer journey, some would chose Las Palmas. It is unfortunate that only the US is transparent to imports as many Europe, and of course China deliveries are behind a curtain.

Container shipping mostly run on a schedule service although there are spot market voyages available. I think that it is unlikely that any extra containers would have been put on ships that were diverted. BUT nothing is impossible

Bobby, sorry finance is not my forte. The OH gives me my pocket money each week and that is mine to spend as she wishes.

On the 20th of December Vanchem packed a container with Vanadium Pentoxide Powder, it was loaded onto the vessel Hansa Asia on the 28th in Durban. After crossing the Atlantic and running down the west coast of the US on the 28th of January it was off-loaded in Freeport, Bahamas.

On the 20th of February it was loaded onto the vessel Northern Monument which off-loaded it again on the 27th of February in Rodman,Panama where it sat on a dock until the 8th of March.

It was then loaded onto MSC Alghero for it's final leg to Oakland California.

Unfortunately the East coast of the US has been gridlocked for several weeks, and many thought it was only the Suez Canal. The Alghero was anchored off Long beach for several weeks and then off Oakland for a similar time.

The container was finally discharged on the 12th of April ready for road transport to it's customer.

This has been an incredible journey involving three sets of clearance from US customs which often triggers reports of delivery adding confusion to many followers.

I would imagine that that future shipments may revert to an eastbound route which normally takes about 6 weeks (without US port delays)

The steady rise in V prices mean that the estimates cost of the average, 3 container delivery to the US has risen by $400,000. Making the total for Wednesday's delivery a little under $2 million.
