Exactly the same for me Robleo - all my holdings are struggling at the moment, aside from Vodafone. I try to switch off when my portfolio is hit by macro factors, as there is very little I can do, but it's been nice to see Vodafone discreetly moving back up, with another divi incoming too.
Yes, bringing down energy and fuel bills is the key to curbing inflation, and it's not looking like it will get better any time soon!
Afternoon all. Vod holding up quite well in this terrible market, so hopefully we’ll benefit when sentiment turns. My rough plan is sell 1/3 at £1.40, 1/3 at £1.55 and keep the rest for dividends. Happy to wait and collect divis while waiting for these targets to be hit!
Hi all, first MKS post.
Bought at £1.32 this morning. Liked the last results, and really like the way M&S aren’t standing still in a changing retail environment. Also it’s a company I use all the time, as it’s my nearest grocery shop, so that helps.
£1.55-£1.60 will do me fine as a short term hold in this macro environment, but I’m happy to hold for a while if needs be.
Dan, I used to use iWeb, which was pretty competitive at the time. But nowadays I do everything on my phone, and iWeb Isn’t really set up for that.
My plan is to try and build my portfolio by compounding gains and dividend income over time. Generally with shares I wouldn’t mind holding for years if things get rocky. How often I trade is dictated by when the target price I have in mind is realised. So I don’t do loads of trading and see myself as a medium-term investor.
I think Vod will come good eventually, but the news is all about Ukraine at the moment and that isn’t going to help. I got lucky with my entry point, so was hoping to take some profit soon and leave in the rest for dividends. But that will have to wait for a bit now!
I’ve been using Freetrade since I started with stocks again in November. No commission on trades, which is handy if you are using a bit of spare cash for averaging down every once in a while like myself. Suits me better to not have to think so much about fees.
The app is nice, but it’s £3 a month for an ISA and it is pretty basic when it comes to features. No DRIP for example, although that’s less of a problem without commission.
Depends which way you look at it. If you’d bought Vod near the start of November you’d be up 28% and would have collected a dividend. A lot of the US growth stocks have dropped off a fair bit since then. More than one way to play it.
I'm hoping for some long term capital appreciation and good dividends while I wait. Will leave a portion in long term for the dividend when I do sell some anyway.
I liked the results yesterday, but I guess the debt is still overshadowing things for now. Patience needed for now.
Solid results for me. Looks like they slightly beat analysts expectations on revenue and free cash flow. I think Germany was a question mark for some, but it looks good, although maybe there will be a delayed reaction there. Dividend as expected. No change of opinion from me - glad I bought in and happy to continue to hold.
Hi all. I’ve been looking at getting back into the stock market for a while, and VOD is one of a number of shares I’ve been watching closely.
The price this week was too tempting, and managed to get in this week at £1.07. I see this as a great share for either medium term capital appreciation - it was in the 140s fairly recently, so getting back there would represent a nice rise - or longer term gains with the great dividend.
The debt levels are obviously a concern though, but look like they are tentatively heading in the right direction? And the exposure to many markets internationally should help with that longer term.
Is there anything I’ve missed or got wrong? I don’t mind people challenging my views and really don’t get too concerned with daily/weekly rises and falls anyway.
Thanks!
