The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
Nice recovery so far. I bought some more around £1 to take my average down to £1.15. Will hopefully take those funds out around breakeven, then leave the rest in for the foreseeable. I’ve still got decent hopes for this share, and the half year results will be interesting.
This was my first post on MKS in June. How times have changed!Does anyone know of any comparable one-off event that has caused so much self inflicted carnage on the markets before? If we’re counting Black Wednesday as a series of events over two years?———————————Hi all, first MKS post. Bought at £1.32 this morning. Liked the last results, and really like the way M&S aren’t standing still in a changing retail environment. Also it’s a company I use all the time, as it’s my nearest grocery shop, so that helps. £1.55-£1.60 will do me fine as a short term hold in this macro environment, but I’m happy to hold for a while if needs be.
Freetrade works well for me. It’s a bit basic, so might not be suitable for some on here, but I like the app a lot. You can trade for free with a General Investment Account, get an ISA for £3 a month or get a lot more features including a SIPP for £9.99 a month.
I was with iWeb - their fees were some of the best on the market, but the lack of an app was a negative, as I prefer to trade and check my portfolio on my phone. Also, I personally prefer the model of a subscription fee and no commission on trades. Worth a look anyway.
I also have Lloyds robleo, sounds like we have a lot of the same shares. My average is about 43p, so I’m marginally in profit, but it’s been another share where the macro environment has impacted the share performance more than the actual results. Another one to be patient and collect dividends from.
Disappointing week again for Vod, but I clawed things back a bit and I was glad to see the divi appear yesterday! GLA
I’m sure that is achievable with some patience robleo. I’m trying to build my portfolio through compound gains at the moment, so setting rough targets and taking profit when I can. More of a medium term than long term view for now. But yeah, this would be a good one to buy and forget I think.
Yes, it’s a great share at these prices if you’re taking a long term view, in my opinion. I have bought the recovery at £2 (I hope!) and will take profit if it reaches my target of £2.40 at some point after ex div, but if it takes time I’m happy to wait and collect dividends.
Terrible market reaction to the AGM, and disaster of a day for my portfolio, on a day when the FTSE finished marginally up.
VOD wasn’t even my worst performer, that dubious honour went to MKS. Consumers are getting battered from all sides at the moment. GLA.
Afternoon guys. Shame this doesn’t want to stay over £1.30 for me as I’m looking to take some profit a little higher up. Can’t argue with the yield though. Maybe this proposed grain deal between Ukraine and Russia will help with inflation a bit? GLA
Thanks. Yeah I like LGEN and will probably try to get back at some point, but I’m thinking DLG has a little more headroom for capital appreciation after the fall, particularly if the yield is maintained. I don’t like jumping around too much, but I was at break even with LGEN and ideally just wanted one of them for now, so it was a straight choice between the two companies for me.
We’ll find out whether this was a good move in August I guess! GLA
You down with DLG? (Yeah you know me).
I’ve swapped LGEN for DLG today. Wish I’d been a bit more proactive and done it at £1.86 the other day, but you can’t have everything.
Definitely some issues here, such as pressures on margins, but hoping the fall is overdone and I can see some of the recovery and collect the dividend.
GLA
Agreed robleo, I like DLG and it’s at the top of my watchlist at the moment. It’s just a case of whether I end up freeing up funds in time to buy at these levels.
Great day for my portfolio today and VOD nicely back above £1.30 again (for now). It’s times like these you almost feel like you know what you’re doing!
GLA
Morning all. Staying above £1.30 seems to be a real challenge. It will be interesting to see where the markets go from here.
DLG is actually what I’m looking to buy next, if I can sell some shares prior to their ex-div. Bit of a risk with their margins under pressure, but worth a punt with that yield, for me anyway.
