Investment trusts overall perform worse than the market. SMT has done well in the past but this is no guarantee that it will do well in the future. The only strategies that have stood the test of time are momentum and defensives.

I've heard that Disney are closing all their shops in shopping malls, another nail in the coffin. With the loss of Debenhams etc. there is less and less reason to visit these malls, My wife used to go every week but she very rarely goes now.

Paddyboy, you lose credibility when you say a guaranteed 30% gain in the next year, there are no guarantess in investing.

I invest basedon momentum and this generally works for most stocks. However it doesn't seem to work for HOC, I have invested a few times in the past and have always lost money. I think I will avoid in the future.

ROBLEO, I'm not sure you have the right mentality for investing, there's no point grumbling when one particular share isn't doing very well, you need to have a well diversified portfolio and hold for a reasonable amount of time, not the many years advocated by some on here but certainly for at least 12 months.

RR, I have sold shares that have lost 20% and then lost a further 90% after I have sold them. Momentum is a big factor in investing.

Yes, his last advise was to short BT at £1.65, it then rose to £1.98. He is a fool.

Why the fascination with CINE, somebody else was on here a couple of weeks ago adivsing to sell HMSO and buy CINE, since then HMSO is up 23% and CINE have gone nowhere.

Secretly, don't get emotionally involved, also holding on to a share just because it is showing a loss is not wise.
