I have taken the option of the scrip dividend but I must admit I don't see what the benefit of it is. If everybody takes it then the share price will fall by the value of the scrip. Unless I'm missing something.

I'm still invested here and happy to see a nice rise. I never have more than 5% of my portfolio in any one share so I don't get too excited by rises or too despondent by falls.
Still below the 200 day SMA of 274 so I still wouldn't have it as a buy.
I agree, if people believe they know better than the experts at SMT then pehaps they should just invest directly in shares and avoid the charges of the experts. I very rarely invest in trusts but SMT is proving a very successful investment for me
But if you want some cash why not just sell a few shares. Never understand why people bang on about dividends, the share price falls by the value of the dividend so you are no better off.

I never short because on average share prices go up rather than down. But of the 600+ companies out there I prefer those with sharer price above the 200 day SMA.
