I just saw that T. Will avoid going anywhere near Dover today. That all we need to add to supple chain problems! I guess thy have got some restructuring re finances which might make their insurance policy invalid until its sorted. Cant see any other reason to stop sailing. Picked up some FNX and topped up on SCS and CMX this morning, who have started a buyback campaign for cancellation. It does seem like OCDO is on a long slow decline. Not that this is supposed to be a large part of their business . I think the meerkat wants to hear some better news to justify the valuation on growth which doesn't appear to be happening at the moment. Apparently M& S figures on the delivery not so good. Hardly surprising when you hear shoppers are flocking to ever expanding Lidl and Aldi to save a lot of money . Cant understand the supermarket revival last six months
Morning all. Yesterday I followed up my WHR purchase with CMCX, SCS, and JIM. Dow, Nikkei and Hang Seng all rose significantly earlier, so am somewhat flummoxed by the ftse muted reaction this morning. Was chomping at the bit, but actually refrained from adding anything else. OCDO is going to get irresistible at this rate, but have had this non relationship with it for 2 years. so its bound to fail if I get on board now! Take care all
typo largest by acreage
T there are so many revelations coming out about the importance of Ukraine as an independent country. I had no idea it was not only the largest country in Europe by average and one of the largest producers of food. The Russians don't have a very good track record . They failed to take back Finland in 1940, but they did gain some land. Looks like a similar compromise will be reached in the Ukraine . Hard to gauge how Russia can reorganise internally . Hope they can and the majority will see the deluded Putin's reckless folly as a Czarist emperor
Morning all. Slightly better news. What and extraordinarily brave move by this 3 prime ministers to catch a train into the Kiev in the middle of a raging war. Bet reading about the guy who runs the railways in Ukraine another incredible man, having to dodge the Russians who are targeting him. Its like an episode from the Blacklist.
The market seems to be showing a sensible amount of exuberance, without going too mad. There is a long way to go yet I feel before things begin to look remotely safe. Rat Putin has to be given a way out to save face which may be too much for UkraineI. The main thing is are we seriously not going to demand Putin's arrest?
Picked up a few WHR first thing but everything else I fancied seemed to have left the station. GL
morning Brigadevians. N_B. Looks like you timed your exit well. AS discussed yesterday when the market ramps up a sector its time to bail. Jobs data seems to be upsetting the market today. Very interesting interviews with historian David Starkey. He does love to over intellectualises everything, but can't fault the history lessons. He says Germany put all their eggs in one basket. The wrong one regarding energy. We know all that thanks David. What I did no know is that is that the minister advising Merkel left the German government to work for Gazprom. A severe case of biting the hand that feeds.
USA and Asia were quiet yesterday so made a bounce later?
Well done NB. I think thats very wise. All done on Brwm. Dont know what the nav is. I think GLEN in particular is looking well ahead of the game if they are still in that. Many commentators are saying hold on to commons, but they said that about a lot of other stuff last year before it all crashed. A profit is a profit and at the moment as we have seen sentiment can turn on a pin.
I think its wise to wait and see when there is a sustained change of direction. Might mean missing some of the used but I think a lot of that is priced in already with some stuck. We have to face a new reality. GL
Morning Brigadears! Quite T. I've only googled is it bet to rinse your hair with water than wash it with shampoo. Seems to be working. I used to work for a guty who made a fortune selling Moroccan mud in a jar as substitute for shampoos and other stuff. Very earthy. in fact I think Earth was in the tile as we did whole foods as well.
Well England heroically failed against Ireland. Well done for them making it entertaining and the Irish for not getting psyched out. Hard decisions that can spoil game. It certainly was not a malicious or even a high tackle. Looked more like a clash of heads. In fact I saw a number of neck rolls that went unpunished although they say checking is ongoing throughout the game. If England can produce that energy with 15 men they will rattle the French.
A you say T lets hope for some positives from talks today. I think the Ukrainians will simply be telling Russia to back off or maybe a bit stronger. So many media propaganda games at the moment. The main thing has been the acknowledge of the need to act more quickly with relief aid and support for Ukraine. No doubt some refugees will be feeling there are two classes of refugee at the moment. Hopefully there will be a solution for Ukraine that will enable their country to be rebuilt
Very good luck tonight T. Will be rooting for you not for the most honourable reasons! I see France have lost a couple of players, Penaud and Taiofifuflof fluff or something to Covid. Hope Wales come out of the traps all guns blazing. Some pretty useful subs on the bench too
Morning Brigadevians. As another week draws to a close I want to say big thank you to the brave heroic Poles who have been monumental and a shining example to the west for their outstanding courage, generosity and support for Ukraine without which this war might well be over or just begun for us, depending how you look at it. Had a safe weekend
bloody google AFRITIN , not African typo
Decided to cash my chips in African which I started building a stake in last June, so had got quite sizeable as well as profitable which is more than I can say for the rest of my portfolio. Tin finally comes off its high. FMO here as I think it will multi bag but they also will need to raise cash again soon I would think to ramp up production with lithium coming on line at some stage . One to watch. Looks like I have got all my placing in CNIC including excess, I thought they said it was oversubscribed. One of the fastest growing tech stocks in the west apparently! It should be with the amount of debt. On the other hand revenue could rise to 500 million from about 200 million last year, rapidly catching up the big competition in the States. Its on a ridiculously low PE of around 10 now. May well go below the placing price again, the way things are now, in which case I will definitely buy more.
Morning all. Wouldn't we all like to do the same to Putin? Totally agree T. I just scrapped a hugely longwinded post about Russian history since the 'Wall.' Suffice to say I agree. We to all intents and purposes at war. Putin won't stop till he is eliminated. This'll just get drawn out for years otherwise and be far more damaging in the long run. Not a great decision to have to take but I can't see any alternatives. There is way out for Putin. He will just push and push as he gets more desperate.
Great to hear from you CSDi. Sorry to hear about your chess chums, but sounds like you have adopted the right attitude both in living life and investing. I earmarked 9 stock to watch over the next few weeks. GRG to my surprise went down after results and ones I was less sure about seem to have gone up. Obviously better if I remain sitting on hands. I think its all very much in the balance at the moment. One thing is for sure even if the market recovers or steadies and the war ceases for however long, there are going to be repercussion on world economies for some time to come. Still should be able to make money hopefully
Morning all. Market seems to be pricing in Armageddon. Bit late for that! Russian nuclear on high alert. More terror tactics. We could say the same to them. Really pathetic creatures Russian soldiers killing defenceless woman children and threatening all nations trying to help. The lowest of the low. I do however pity Russians protesting against the war. They have to do lot more than that. Its their war! Firstly to show the west they mean and secondly, to stop Putin instead of surrendering to him. Massive collections for Ukraine around the UK. We have an HGV lorry heading out this morning driven by a Ukrainian heading back to fight. Nappies, nappy rash cream torches and batteries for soldiers, snack bars, tape, utility tools etc. This was a list of stuff they needed, and set up by local businesses collecting money and supplies. God speed and good luck to Ukraine
Funny you should mention that NB about European defence spending. Finland celebrated their 100 year independence from Russia just 4 years ago are suddenly very keen to join NATO. They are seeing a steady flow of Russians escaping Putins regime before they're locked down. "most people in Russia do not want the war, killing its own family.' Sweden, Germany, Holland are all upping their defence spending in a hurry.
NB. Shane had a long time to wait for a bat, especially when playing England regards liking a drink. Sad news especially after paying tribute just hours before, to another Aussie legend Rod Marsh who also died from a heart attack this morning or last night.
I was just thinking about buying some stock, thinking the Dow might be shrugging off the latest news. Seems to be turning down again. Not only that but looks like CNIC might be heading below the placing sp after all having bravely fought its way up. Still got next week to send the forms in. Does not look good at all. A lot depends on what our extra support or more accurately America's extra support turns in to. Cant see a meaningful negotiated ceasefire lasting, even if it happens. truly awful situation. So sad. Not least because it is so unnecessary and avoidable
Lovely morning up in Broadstairs. Impossible to say whats going on. Does Russia think they have secured Chernobyl. In which case they have 5 more to secure. T you were right about worse tomorrow. Itv looking really set up for a bid. Directors piled in this morning
Putin is a sinister comic in the he is the only one who finds himself funny. How did a dunce become so powerful? Only Trump knows the answer to that.
I think Boo has actually fallen more than FXPO. I cant believe stopping trade with Russia can have effected their trade that much. I'm sure OCDO would be a good long tern trade from here. Like BOO they have growth potential but have an unfortunate knack of getting into too many tangles. More interested in Japan again. Got in a wee bit early on the way down. Never thought they would fall so far having ridden out the olympics and omicron ok. Night all. sleep well!
T Have been keeping a watchful eye on Ballie Gifford's Mnks & SMT . Both considerable fallers of around 30% from summer highs. That as big as some of my riskier plays. Part of that is the widening of nav values. The used to trade at a premium.
We 've got Putin and Biden saying you ain't seen nothing yet. Some people placing almost reckless bets on Poly today. I am tempted by FXPO but if it falls into Russian hands I think you could say goodbye to that. Frankly there are as good if not better plays in the 'free world'
