Last time I was on here, someone, (can't remember who) lamented having lost out on a lot of gains, due to selling
RR too quick, as the share price has kept climbing. I then recounted my woeful tale of losing out through selling two months too early, on a 1,000% (one thousand percent) overnight rise on OXB on a £22k punt. Compounded, by a 6% rise the following day.. for those of you who recall, (I always forget some pertinent point or other) this was via my ISA stocks and share account!
Moral of this tale: I should have stayed in bed. And there's something to be said for LTH. Oh yes, and way back, when we were at 65p here, I posted , "Fill your boots, not your pants!" Thanks ever so much.
Meant to say, my lesson from the OXB missed opportunity, was stay close to RR. Though I've sold, always bought back on the good side of prices. No insights from me as to RR. Others here know a good deal more than I do about this great company.
Mr Blobby, at least you've made some profit with RR I take it? My worst trade, if it serves to bring you some sense of perspective, must be buying almost £22k of OXB sometime in October 2017. Got bored after months of holding only to see it rise overnight by 1,000 in May or June 2018..! . To add insult to injury the following day OXB was up another 6%.! Oy did I sulk.
Never posted my tail of woe on OXB.
being a bit of a luddite, i was abroad until yesterday, with no clever phone to check up on 22nd results; thinking i'll keep tabs via others' junk. knew rr was up, but do you think i could remember my account codes to check? no! still as the punchline to a slightly too risque joke to repeat here goes; the longer the wait, the wetter the *****.. if i had a ***** that is..
Them's my sentiments as well! Sell high and buy low.. this t works well most of the times. A few down days, but you can't predict every blinking price move! And I second Nettles The Cat (?) sentiments let's be nice...
I bought fully in again 31st and 1st Feb at just under my last sell price, including stamp duties quickly recouped! My logic/ gamble is even if the SMR thing doesn't materialise, Mr Turbine might give us at least a penny per dividend this time - which could also incentivise the hedge funds to buy? Amongst other positives, on which a number of other posters here are far better informed than me!
Also last time here, there was a discussion on capital gains tax, which I meant to comment on. This is simply not an issue, provided you buy and sell via an ISA stocks and shares account. Also of course via a SIPP; where HM Gov will even pay you a proportional sum of your own contributions each tax year. The only ultimate advantage of a SIPP (which I also have) over an ISA account, is that should one pop one's clogs before the age of seventy five, then that SIPP is paid free of inheritance tax to your nominated heir(s) which is not the case with an ISA. I may be wrong so do your own research and so on. The other issue was whether to hold long term, or buy and sell and buy again. In and out has worked for me so far. (OOHH Matron!) Here's to a super results day!
I sold my entire holdings here 11/12 Dec - a few pees short of today's price and very grateful I was for all the nice gains.. Never held a stock for over two years before. And of course wondering if it might have been better to hang in there for the February results, oh and that ever elusive SMR announcement! Looks like a good price to get back in. Decisions, decisions!
Same here PrinceY. Major portion of my shares is RR at the moment but don't even bother looking in at the forum nowadays. If I did, couldn't resist saying take a look at the rising bonds yields lately. Something's gonna hit the fan pretty soon and I'm nervously looking for an exit. On topic though, (only joking, I reiterate, everying is on topic..) glad Richie Rich the ex Goldman S billion air seems to be girding his loin cloth to announce the pull back by a few years of the net z fantasy. Good for HBR I would have thought., but what do I know.
Exactly J.., and the other day I said Obama and his wife, forked out $40 Million for his seafront pile. My mistake, actually it was only $14 million, they are going to watch disappear under rising sea levels see...
