Redceo, RM is a large national organisation so I agree it will have a good mixture of the UK population, good, bad and otherwise.
Over the last four and a half decades, I have been generally happy to work for RMG and things have never got to the point where I wanted to quit, however I, alongside many colleagues, have seen decisions made within the business that were doomed to failure and usually at great cost. Before 2013, nobody really cared and it was treated as business as usual.... "you've gotta break some eggs to make an omelette" type of thinking.
Unfortunately, the rate of terrible decision making hasn't improved since privatisation, which is a shame as that's yours and my investment at stake.

Given the events of the last couple of weeks, the SP has been quite resilient.

JB, I'm not so sure that Compo, Clegg and Foggy are out of the woods with the Select Committee just yet and if the BoD are going to push through with more revisions before Monday this will just make industrial relations worse especially as the workforce now know that anything that is done, said or written in the daily huddles that constitutes breaking the USO will now be noted and used against the BoD.
Having said that, I truly believe that Thompson and Williams are so arrogant that they will plough on regardless.
The next three weeks will be interesting.

Broch, I agree with the philosophy of "once over the ground" as it is more sustainable for the business in terms of efficiency and carbon footprint. I shudder to think how many surplus miles my postie's old Doblo has clocked up since 2013. Add Amazon, DPD, Evri, UPS and Yodel into the mix and it makes a total mockery of reducing emissions and carbon footprints as a nation.

The UK Government is increasing the National Living Wage by 9.5% in April 2023, which by your reasoning would make workers worse off in the long run?
So all the companies that decided to give their workforce a decent pay rise in 2022 (Jacobs, Stagecoach etc...) will be worse off in the long run and shooting themselves in the foot?
Don't believe for one moment that these companies are doing this out of benevolence for their staff. They are doing this in order to retain their staff at a time when the employees have the upper hand in the employment scene, which doesn't happen very often. Even the supermarkets are now upping their game.
RM has stated that the 18 days of strike action has cost £200m. That's £200m that they could have used to resolve the issue before it got out of hand, which would have given a 5% no strings deal and a "we need to have a serious talk before the next round of talks Dave" but all Simon was interested in was working off his spreadsheet to rightsize the company so that staffing matched the budget....... which clearly isn't going to work given the framework that RM UK has to operate in.
Yes, I realise that spending £200m would have put the UK operation in the same position but at least the BoD would probably have avoided the current scrutiny, scandal and embarrassment?

I have now watched the entire sorry 107 minutes of this saga. It certainly was not a resounding success for Compo, Clegg and Foggy and possibly raised even more questions going forward.
Will there be a record breaking third installment?

JB, just for clarification, the CWU stated in the Pathway to Change Agreement that it supported a seven day service although the Sunday was initially supposed to be supported on a voluntary basis.

T2K, I have to say that I have only watched an hour so far and it was painful to listen to. I actually felt embarrassed that a grown man couldn't answer a straight question with a binary answer.

The problem is that for £11 an hour would you rather be out in all weather or in the warm and dry? Clearly the outdoors life appeals to some but I suspect that the vast majority will opt for "warm and dry"......

It looks as though the cleaners and engineers deal was brokered by Carl Maden and Mark Baulch who are part of the CWU negotiating team that is headed up by Dave Ward.

JB, if my memory serves me correctly, the cleaners and engineers were partially outsourced (49% to Kier FM?) 20+ years ago and were treated as not being part of RMG. Around 3 or 4 years ago the business realised that Kier were taking 49% of the profits without actually doing anything and bought the 49% back stating that the cleaners and engineers were once again part of the business however according to our cleaners they are still treated as an outside company so presumably this is the reason for a separate deal?
