Regarding Terry Pullinger's comment last week: “We built [the company], and we would rather smash it to bits than hand it over.”
As a CWU member and supporter for over 40 years I find this type of comment rather unhelpful in the unions quest and I would like to think that he regrets saying this now. I'm sure that in hindsight he could have thought of something more diplomatic.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Aside from the impact that Brexit uncertainty has on the financial markets I'm also quite concerned that the unionists may be planning civil unrest on the streets of Belfast as they feel betrayed by Boris. The NI problem was my main reason for originally voting remain. Our local pub was successfully targeted by the IRA and I don't want to return to this state of affairs.

It seems that the only members of the community that are enjoying Brexit are the media/journalists.
For the rest of us it's getting pretty tedious. It's been 1212 days since the vote and we are no nearer to leaving.
I fully expect the SP to drop 10p on Monday morning. Any other thoughts?

IsleworthSpy, thanks. It was more of a rhetorical "tongue in cheek" reply as both of us know that the comments from wolfbag2 were incorrect. Nonetheless, there may be viewers out there that may believe this rubbish, so it needs to be called out (which you also quite correctly do).
I am not a CWU hard liner but I do believe that the trade unions are necessary.

Fruitster, yours is a truly impressive story of "local boy done good" for which you must be congratulated and presumably your parents would be (quite rightly) proud of you.
Your story although impressive is not typical of the vast majority of workers, especially the young.
I have a 21 year old and a 19 year old in my household. One works for KFC and the other Pizza Hut franchises, both owned by the same person who has no regard (or perhaps knowledge) of modern day legal requirements that modern day business owners need to adhere to such as the minimum break between shifts, holiday pay, young workers (under 18s) regulations, pregnant workers rights or workplace pension schemes.
Your statement "
As said unions do ntg for you apart from rant for you" paints a very one sided view. In many instances the trade union is there to offer a voice to those workers who are unsure of their rights or who are afraid to speak out against unscrupulous bosses (of which there are many).
Although you may not agree with the stance of the CWU it is unfair to tar all trade unions and their representatives with the same brush.

Wolves, the ballot turnout was 75.9% with a 97.1% yes vote, meaning that 73.7% of CWU members backed the motion.
Whether you agree or not, these are impressive figures by voting standards.
By way of comparison, the turnout for the 2016 EU referendum was 72.21 which was deemed to be excellent.

You guys really crack me up with your comments. I'm usually an introvert but sometimes I have to laugh out loud (NOT lots of love, David Cameron) as I read them.
Today has been brilliant. We started off with nuri123a panicking as the SP dropped 5p first thing but the CWU vote/IA threat has been the gift that keeps on giving.

RoyAlMail, your sentiment is correct but in reality that's not what happens. The RTS goes back to the poster (RBS, Lloyds etc) and not Whistl.

The profit margins on DSA are very slim so any RTS would negate profit on that item.
Unfortunately, our competitors are not obliged to trouble themselves with RTS and I have even noticed the odd small Hermes labelled item popping up in our postboxes as presumably Hermes don't have an RTS policy?

RoyAlMail, any DSA mail that is put back in the postbox by customers with a RTS note written on it is culled out of the system by hand and then put on a sorting machine which hopefully will read it he very small return address.
The mail is then returned to the sender presumably for pulping.

nuri, it's your money and you are obviously entitled to your opinion but I don't think that you can put this all on the workforce.

nuri, the drop in SP is not necessarily all down to the "militant workforce" and I'm fairly confident that it will pick up again before the weekend.
I would suggest that it is a knee jerk reaction that is giving the big players the perfect opportunity to make a few quid as they watch the SP rise again.
I understand that you have a substantial amount invested in RMG and if I was in the same position I would be looking at the Brexit negotiations with more interest as that will have a much bigger impact on the SP.

Mad, it would actually be more beneficial for RM to increase the USO to 7 days a week in order to keep abreast of the competition.

But despite the vote of RM employees for IA, the SP will continue to rise as IA will have no real impact on the SP.

The BBC reported "More than 97% of votes by members of the Communication Workers Union backed a strike. Turnout was 76%."
There are 110,000 CWU members in RM out of 130,000 employees.
97% of 76% is 73.7%, multiplied by 110,000 is 81,000 employees. This means that 81,000 voted yes, 3,000 voted no, 26,000 didn't cast a vote and 20,000 were not eligible. Thus the yes vote was 81,000 and those who didn't vote yes was 49,000.
The motion for IA was a lot more convincing than the vote to leave the EU.

STD, when we had a massive yes vote on pensions and the 4 pillars agreement last year the SP was £3.80ish, then after agreement was reached it rose sharply to £6.31 then when Rico was appointed it started to fall, which also coincided with Teresa May not being able to push her various Brexit deals through.
