Dont think you realise the advantage of ITs. They give you coverage in markets you could hardly touch. For 53 years we have held them and they ALL yes ALL gave us a profit. Something individual shares have not done or got anywhere near, as we are bad judges (holding these gives you a clue). At the moment we are increasing our Russian holdings in ITs as they are cheap. Small companies in the UK are hard enougth to judge let alone those small companies in Japan China North America Europe etc. The ITs cover a lot of companies something most individual people cannot do in specialise areas I.E German property Africa Eastern Europe Etc Etc.. We made a lot of money on IT warrants 30 odd yrs ago but they stopped issuing them as they did then. VCTs etc are a sector it is hard for individuals to get a good selection of. As everyone knows small companies always outgrow the large ones over say a 5-10 year period. Investment trusts buy in to a very large range companies that most of us cannot do. Like most things you have to be selective. As some ITs have only shown a small increase over 5 yrs were as others have increased by 200-300 %. The poor ones are sometimes worth going in to when they specialise in a particular sector or range of shares that overall have not done very well but will come back in to fashion. so trying to judge the time to reenter those sectors is the thing you have to try and do. We have very few ITs that own FTSE 100 stocks as they only show a small % growth over a 20 yr period. A profit yes and if you are happy with that there is nothing wrong in buying them We DO NOT buy trackers. Only active managers in ITs as they beat the trackers. Now we just add a few each month so the balance we require is equal. We have bought a lot of shares as well but made very little in comparison of the steady returns we have received from ITs Yes we are dabbling in about 16 stocks which we intend to reduce to about ten, just for fun. Now nearly 80 we see the same patterns coming and going over a ten year period. Shares are fun but quality ITs are reliable. But everyone to their own . We thought years ago that we were clever and could beat them but we did not. To many Defenx, Accro type of holdingsl Yes we have had those that doubled and tripled but they were few and far between Stocks go down a lot quicker and farther with bad news while not increasing so much with good news. So long as we all make some increase above inflation we have done well.

THEY KEEP THE CASH AS LONG AS THEY CAN TO EARN INTEREST. SHARE PRICE WILL DROP BECAUSE WE BOUGHT MORE LAST WEEK IT ONLY GOES UP WHEN WE DO NOT BUY, NOT JUST DFX BUT ANY COMPANY. THAT IS WHY WE ARE RETURNING TO INVESTMENT TRUSTS AS 80% OF OUR HOLDINGS ARE I.Ts.. WE HAVE ABOUT 40 AND WILL DABBLE IN A FEW SHARES TO GIVE ME SOMETHING TO DO.

never understood why so often when after a share is purchased the next trade is another purchase of a higher number of shares but at a LOWER strike price as at 1425 today when 1262 where bought at 28.6p then the next trade a minute later sees 3387 bought for a s;lightly lower price of 28.56 See this a lot with shares of many companies but at a bigger difference. Surly after a purchase, the price remains stationery or rises, NOT go down. Just cannot work it out.

According to LSE fundamentals there are only 13,000,000 shares available (This must be after the ones BV own, Re wordog and wordog appears to have the correct info) If this is correct it would not take much to buy these and push the price sky high, as the MM will soon increase the price as the orders flood in. However there will be those that will sell as it reaches 50p to take a small profit rather than hang on to get a bigger one

Try accrol (ACRL) for bouncing about. another one of our duds. But think this will pay off long term

iF THEY ARE GOLD DUST TO THE MMKS THEN WHY THE DROP IN PRICE SOME WILL BE TAKING PROFITS AFTER BUYING IN AT 10P TO 20P AS FOR THOSE WHO BOUGHT IN AT 150 PLUS YOU CAN TAKE YOUR LOSS AND REDUCE IT ELSEWHERE WITH A WINNER OR PUT THESE AWAY FOR 3-4 YRS. MM WILL KEEP PRICE LOW AS LONG AS THEY CAN. WE BOUGHT IN AT UNDER 46P AND WOULD SELL IF THEY GOT THERE. THOUGHT THEY MIGHT AT ONE POINT. PERHAPS WE SHOULD SELL AT MID 30S AND BUY BACK LATER. WIDE SPREAD AT TIMES DOES NOT HELP.

WHY IS THE PRICE DROPPING ID SOMEONE WANTS THE SHARES. THERE MUST BE SELLERS TO MAKE IT GO DOWN. SO WHO IS SELLING IF THERE ARE NOT MANY FREE SHARES AROUND, OR ARE WE KIDDING OURSELVES.

Well we have bought back in, missed the 190ps as we were away. Most shares go down at first when we buy them, but there should be enough recovery room to make a little profit in 3 months. perhaps
