You're not alone in failing to understand JT-P's arrangement: it looks as if JT-P himself didn't fully understand its implications.

Tidswell loaned his shares to a third party (and denied it!) the third party were then caught selling them on - when the SP began to drop (as a consequence of shorting by the third party).

He didn't loan them to the 3rd party, he transferred ownership of them to the 3rd party!
To have sold shares short, the 3rd party would have needed to borrow them in the first place, but it didn't borrow them, it owned them!

I've asked for this before, but nobody, to date, has posted any evidence to back up your "shorting" accusation against JT-P (which did not occur in 2019 anyway).
Back in mid-2018, he did transfer his shares to a 3rd party, but that was to secure a loan and had nothing to do with shorting shares.
