And on that day volume did exceed 1bn shares.

That's the point, tkr234, it's not the number of shares but their monetary value.
It just needs one or two IIs to decide they want to buy in seriously and in a hurry and the price will shift very quickly.
It's happened in the past: if sentiment suddenly becomes positive, the upward momentum can be impressive.

It remains a much-followed stock.
100m shares might not make much difference to the price (depending on the circumstances, of course), but 1bn would and that is not unimaginable.
