the energy crisis8 Jan 2022 11:56
The Times devotes quite a bit of this morning's paper to the subject. Some extracts:
"Mike Foster, chief executive of the Energy and Utilities Alliance, said: 'The UK can do little about wholesale prices other than try to mitigate the impact on consumers" (p6);
"No quick fix' to solve the worsening energy crisis" is the headline of an article spread over 2 pages on pp52-53:
" ... with analysts warning that high wholesale costs could be here for several years, questions are mounting ... over what, if anything, can be done to address the root cause";
Tory MPs "have called for Britain, which imports more than half its gas, to bolster domestic production";
"James Huckstepp, of S&P Global Platts, ... said that European wholesale gas prices would remain 'far above historic averages' for the next two to three years and that 'there isn't much that policymakers can do about this";
"One energy chief concluded: 'We've got to accept that we live in a global energy market. The price is what it is".
