Not many outside of these circles will know this... "Ganfeng has stated that they expect the capacity of phase I will deliver 50,000 tons of lithium hydroxide, which is 42% above the anticipated production levels outlined in the feasibility study."

Sonora and its attractiveness regarding lithium

In a press conference with local media, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard mentioned that another of Tesla's interests is Sonora, due to its lithium exploitation.

I got, battery part is pending... as in, will be announced soon (perhaps tomorrow/Thursday next week). And yes, this is going to be a very big Tesla operation - those that have been following the development of the Sonora plan will understand why, and how Lithium is central to its success.

@Mer - AMLO stole your line by essentially saying patience, more news later this week and next! Including tomorrow. lol. Fingers well and truly crossed this is the big one we've waited so very long for! ;-)

Love your enthusiasm @tomcat! I'm sticking somewhere in the range of circa $50/t (what Ganfeng paid for BCN's share in 2021) and $250/t (recent transactions according to the January 2023 WH Ireland KDNC note).

With circa 1.5Mt of resource associated with KDNC, that's somewhere between $75m and $375m. Not bad given our mcap is multiples below that and includes other assets! :-))

$375m all cash, or $75m with $300m in royalties would suit me just fine, or anywhere in between! ;-)

I fully appreciate this could be another false dawn in the making, Cry Wolf anyone? But I sincerely believe there's a good chance this is the true dawn we've been waiting for all these years, but prepared, as ever, to wait it out if not as so many other good news on the near horizon too for us!

lol @EV, if the Sonora Plan is successful and Tesla are indeed involved, then we'll be talking > 100kt/pa! Maybe not from the off, but in short order that I'm sure of, maybe 200kt/pa within 5-10 years even. Hope @Kiran understands this in terms of royalty possibilities!

We know TESLA took clay from Sonora several years back, and they now have a patent to produce Lithium from it efficiently. They'll want in, just a question of how much they are willing to offer, and how much we are willing to accept IMHO... And perhaps all the other parts of the Sonora Plan jigsaw coming together, or possibly not, depends on how that call between Elon and AMLO goes/went!

But seriously, we need more reach, more understanding of what might be on the cards for little 'ol KDNC. We know lithium is central to the Sonora Plan, and if Tesla are getting involved, that likely means a deal for our Lithium IMHO, and quite possibly on or before their investor day on Wednesday.

In 2021 the Mexican senate elevated lithium deposits to the category of “strategic minerals”, declaring the exploration, exploitation, and use of lithium to be the exclusive right of the state. It is our current view that the Decree passed by the senate only impacts licenses, concessions or contracts to be granted not already those already granted as is the case for the Sonora Lithium Project.
