Zeb, it's a matter of perspective. If your nearest connection to a national grid is hundreds of miles away and you are in a country where that isn't particularly reliable anyway ( three quarters of Africa) then a mini grid is amazingly cost effective.
It's a bit like a mobile phone network. Would you want to put up masts over thousands of square miles which only house a few isolated communities? Or would you prefer a satellite communication with no masts?
Looking at the wider picture, if the world enters recession will people still need electricity? Will the world still need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
Recessions in my 58 years on this planet generally mean the poor get poorer and the rich don t get a lot richer but life goes on. Given that we are the lowest cost, biggest resource with the highest grade resource on the planet I can't see us suffering greatly no matter what the world economic situation.
