Too many American cheats on Chesswithfriends but its easy to use (4 days per move so too many bots)

Surrey, no disrespect but to make 30% in an at best now benign investment environment you would need to consider risking losing the same amount. Interest rates are still at a 400 year low and the free flow of cheap money for several years has created a bubble in most assets. The best free advice I can give you without fully understanding your assets/liabilities and you risk/reward profile is to take your recent good fortune as just that. Either sit on your hands in mainly cash/deposit funds or buy some geared short index ETF's with a % of your SIPP and wait for a better entry point.

A few shares are still worth a punt with a small % but a broader market sell off will affect most IMO.

I've got metro right for the last 6 months after getting it wrong after the initial big drops by not understanding what I was buying. I got my timing wrong on shorting the markets but only my timing, time will tell.

30% is unrealistic at the moment, especially if you want to retire in relative comfort and not end up buying a gun with your last thousand or going on a last hurrah to Switzerland because you got greedy in the early years of retirement at the wrong time..

Why would you hold Gold as a direct asset ?

Possible purchase and selling costs, holding fees/insurance, tax on the gains.

Spread bet it if you think the price will go up or down and you take all of that pain away - clueless or as full of sh1 t as ever..!
