Hi All,
another great day for holders here today, however, I'm developing a problem.
I hold all of my shares in a SIPP and hope to retire in a few years time.
Historically, and in an ideal world, i like to keep shares in 10 different companies at a very rough ratio of 10% of my total portfolio per share. Obviously rises and falls of my investments make this an impossible ask to keep precisely, but by top slicing winners and cutting losers I normally stay within a few percentage points.
In addition I do not allow myself anymore than 2 companies from a particular sector or any more than 2 companies from a particularly geographic.
Some investors may feel that 10 companies is not enough to mitigate risk and others might feel that 10 is too many to keep an eye on, however, I have found that up to 10 suits me and has served me well.
I first found Pensana last year, liked the story, and invested roughly 10% of my pot in the company. Pensana duly trebled in just a few months and I halved my holding, investing my profits in Rainbow Rare Earths. After a later retrace here, I couldn't resist buying back my "sold" shares at a much lower price, my average cost now in the low 30p's.
Rare Earths are absolutely crucial in so many areas moving forward, well documented by knowledgeable posters here and elsewhere.
So now my dilemma is as follows.
Following significant rises here and over at RBW, rare earths now make up nearly 50% of my portfolio PRE 32%, RBW 16%. On any metric this clearly way too high but....what to do.
Common sense tells me that I MUST top slice both and reinvest elsewhere (or keep the cash for a while) . My heart and my head tell me though that the story for Pensana in particular and rare earths in general has only just started, the long awaited BFS is imminent and £5, even £10 a share is a real possibility within the next two years. If I didn't top slice and £10 came to pass, my quality of life through my retired years would be significantly enhanced.
Suggestions?
Any and all thoughts gratefully received.
