Locusts are good carp bait (as are large flying ants). There is a saying 'Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.'

If you like deep fried locusts you should try Mopane worms but I prefer getting my protein from organic chicken and beef; each to their own though.

I see a currency risk and a risk to the agricultural sector in India - as the Monsoon arrives the Locusts will breed (Locust eggs only take 2 weeks to hatch). Maybe I over analyse my investments but I am risk averse and there are 6 other Pictet funds that I am currently considering putting money into so there are potentially better options than watching the short term gains on the Indian fund turn into a short term loss.

A plague of Locusts has spread from Yemen into Pakistan and parts of India (blamed on the war in Yemen as they have been unable to carry out control activities). I bought into an actively managed Indian equities fund at the beginning of May hoping for a bounce on the elections. Up 5.7% in just over 2 months.

Hardly an earth shattering profit but I have to sell in the morning and bank the profit as the risks from Locusts to an agrarian economy is too rich for me (and the new Finance Minister's budget speech was not well received).

I have some funds waiting to allocate to funds and have been doing some research. I sold a Pictet Digital fund last July - I got the timing correct and banked a 30 percent profit over 18 months but, after the price dropped as I expected, did not buy back in again. The same fund is up over 20 percent so far this year and I have missed the bounce (the GDPR rules about third party advertising are expected to start biting so the same fund will inevitably go down again).

It seems immoral to profit from water but as mankind spoils the god delivered resources it is a primary resource that all require on a daily basis. The Chennai water crisis shows the opportunity that can exist from thirst; which is a pity as I have other structured funds attempting to take advantage of Narendra Modi re-election.
