The US schemes for forbearance on mortgages and student loans etc end at the end of December. Trump seems so unhappy at losing the election that some are expecting him not to extend the schemes and that any further CARES Act or similar support for the US economy is unlikely - he is more likely to want to leave a bitter pill for Biden to deal with and is likely to have wider Republican support in this as it makes it more likely that Biden / the Democrats will only serve 1 term. The Republicans do like portraying themselves as fiscal hawks when it suits their interests.

About 20 million people who owe student loans will be placed in financial difficulty if loans need to start being repaid again; figures for the number that will suffer under the ending of other schemes are not that easy to find but are probably even higher. Putting 50 million into financial distress on 1 January is going to kick the US economy far harder than the markets seems to be factoring in.

Prospects in the UK and across Europe cannot be rosy either; the sugar high that the markets got on vaccine news may just be that - a high from which it has to come down. Results on Moderna's vaccine will come out either this week or the next; they are likely to be positive as it is also a messenger RNA based vaccine [same tech as Pfizer's]. If the results are positive another spike is in the offering; then the inevitable crash.

If the results are not good watch volumes overload some brokers systems again because the sell-off will be brutal. Watch out and take care; nobody likes to see assets evaporate...
