They made a profit of £73m but that was reduced to a loss of £44 mainly because of the "exceptional" costs caused by a fire at a warehouse. Any business that runs rechargeable robots will always suffer malfunctions that can cause catastrophic damage, so my accounting model considers these a normal cost of business, not exceptional.
Furthermore, the fire will have damaged Ocado's reputation which must have caused some damage to the potential earnings from out licensing their technology. Their lofty p/e ratios do not reflect that damage or the advances big tech are making that could consume Ocado's expected market position.
I have been a customer of their for a dozen of so years, so I clearly like the shopping experience. However, they have lost many billions over that period.
