RE: BIG Battery.7 Apr 2021 22:30
The "power" of arbitrage should never be underestimated. At one stage spot prices went up 300-fold during the recent Texas snow storm.
There is a solar / battery installation at a water treatment plant in Scotland. In summer, it generates more power than is needed during daylight hours and stores it for use at night and sale at peak prices. In winter the battery is overcharged from the grid when prices are below a certain price and then excess stored power is sold back to the grid at peak prices.
You used to be able to do a home setup to do the same, but my understanding is that GOV has significantly reduced the incentives [probably as they want consumers to pay for new nuclear power].
When I was a bookie in ZA I had a strong cash business and could lay more of a horse than I wanted; laying off at higher prices made a profitable business much more profitable.
